MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Align Boring 1997 Rover 4.0 Liter V8 Block

My machine shop is having trouble coming up with the housing bore specifications for the main bearing saddles for the 1997 Rover 4.0 liter block with cross-bolted mains. The local Land Rover dealer does not seem to feel like this is something he should take the time to look up. Can anyone provide them? Thanks!

Eric, I had the same problem, even tried the USA Rover tech hotline and the importer, but never got the specs. The local dealer could not find the saddle bore in the manuals he has. the tech line never responded to me or my machinist. If you find a source, please let me know.

Visit http://www.rpiv8.com/homepage.htm where you should be able to leave Chris Crane a message. I think he will be able to help.

Rog,

Thanks for the help. I've sent Chris a message. If he is able to help, I'll post the info for others who may be working with this engine. Thanks again!

Rog,

I sent an email to Chris at RPi Engineering. I received the following answer from "Lisa" at RPi:

"Although we sell them we don't machine them, those that do guard the secrets."

Since I was asking for Rover's bearing saddle specifications, I was surprised that other companies would consider Rover's specifications to be their own trade secrets. I was also surprised that RPi apparently doesn't know the specifications either. I can't imagine how they can maintain quality control over their suppliers without knowing critical specifications! Needless to say I won't be shipping my block across the Atlantic for them to send to one of the machine shops that do their work.

Do you have any other suggestions as to where I can get the specifications?

Thanks for your help!

Eric, how about the Rover specialists in the US? Isn't there one called 'West coast rovers' or is it East coast rovers ?

I reckon that Nick Law at Discovery Engineering(was Rovercraft) would know the answer to that question.Rovercraft were one of the companies originally producing 4.5l conversions with 2.5"in mains using their own cranks.
