MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - aluminum cleaner
Hi guys I took my rover block to the engine shop to have it dipped, they told me they dont tank them like cast iron blocks, just degrease them. Is there a special chemical they dont have? Is there a product I can buy off the shelf in the states that would work. I have seen some old blocks and heads that look like new, what is the trick. Thanks Paul |

A modern shop would use the hot tank (the new kind) it only uses very hot water high pressure air and steam in the final stage. It's like a dish washing machine. Remanufactures use this system specially in alum. Yes do look like new. |

A place I used when I lived in SoCal used a tumbling like process on CI blocks. Took a block with paint and huge external rust (including lifter gallery) and it came out spotless. I understand they use steel shot and a water based detergent in a vibratory process of some type. |

I have used a product called "ZEP-Alum". It does a fantastic job of cleaning up aluminum parts such as the head and block. I believe this is only available through ZEP distributors. |

Same "Zep" products that are available at Home Depot? |

Cosco in ca. has a cleaner call OIL EATER the best degreaser I have ever used. Make sure you use gloves and follow instructions. It clean the oil spot in my driway and degrease a transmission with one application and very little brushing. real good stuff!!!I also use it to pre-wash my greasy clothing, and a small spot of oil in the carpet. It was clean before my wife came home, she never new. |

Oven cleaner does a good job of cleaning aluminum too, but you have to wash the surface thoroughly after use. Try different lengths of time in different areas as needed, but it really works well! It really leaves a nice bright finish! |
