MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Arrrgh! What about a fuel pickup?
In the middle of my conversion project I ordered a new fuel tank and modified a VDO sending unit to fit. (I am going with all VDO gauges in the conversion.) I was proud of my accomplishment until I realized that the stock sending unit includes the pickup tube. Any ideas on what to do now? Should I cut a hole in the new sending unit and braze in the tube or weld in a new pickup flange elsewhere on the tank? Thanks, Mark |

The stock sending unit includes the pickup tube??!!?? What year car do you have? My '74, which is almost surely stock in this respect, is not rigged thus. |

Ted, I am new to MGs and the car was in pieces when I got it. There is a piece of fuel line hose attached to the plate that includes the sending unit. I do not find another outlet on the new tank. I am assuming the small fitting near the filler neck inlet is part if the venting/evaporation control system. Am I wrong? The car is a '76. Mark |

Mark, I switched to all VDO gauges and if you get the right resistance range for the fuel gauge, there is no need to swap your stock sending unit. I can check and let you know what the specs were on mine (I went with the 4" white faced variety). In my case it was a 77B so I'm not sure if the resistance output is the same for a 74, but you can check empty and full with a resistance meter and match accordingly. Steve |

Mark Sorry, I should have referenced your car as a 76! Steve |

Tanks/senders did change from separate connections to the tank for sender and pick-up to combined in Aug 76. PaulH. |
