MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Bike Engined MGB????????

Hi people, while ive been away ive been thinking, Bike engines. I know there not exactly good for torque, but for size and weight its heaps of bhp. Any one thought along these wild lines or is that just me being crazy??? Ive got the theory of how to fit it, but just a case of would it be worth it in terms of being more powerfull than say having either the original engine or in my case having the vauxhall xe engine. Engine would have to be rear mounted.

ive seen them fitted in kit cars, and in the old mini, but the mgb weighs alot more.

Hmmm, got the cogs turning in my head now, not clever.

Any ideas or abuse for silly thinking out loud please reply, this could be fun and productive.

cheers

The extra weight of the B will be hard work for the bike clutch and trans. I'd stick to the XE which is a fine engine.

Thats what i was thinking. Unless some serious weight could be lost from the car without loosing strength, like using box section tubing to frame out car and loose a lot of the bodywork, like a caterham or similar built kit car. hmmm

out of interest as ive not taken a look in the haynes for a while, how much does the B weigh, and any ideas on the weight of the engine and box?

Cheers

cf, i have an old mini with a vtec and also one with a 2.5L vauxhall v6, i have belonged to the 16v mini club for a few years and the has been much talk about bike transformations into minis in the last year. what i have read is that the technology for the swap is very new and right now the average one needs a new tranny set up every 2000 miles, they were never designed for the torque needed to get even a 1600 lb mini up and running. and the really really fast ones are using dual engines not single. personally, i would look at a complete subby wrx turbo engine, tranny and 4 wheel drive setup as a better option, jim

Blinding idea, cheers for info. Im no doubt gonna keep with vauxhall setup, but as is always a ridiculous idea pops into my head and i have to look into it. Cheers guys.

Perhaps an other answer, the Motopower V8, beautiful but expensive

Only bike engines I would look at are the big new ones here in teh USE, 1800's etc... Valkrye have alike a 1800cc Vtwin or something... Bit like said they would have a hard time pulling the 2400lbs MG around...

the valkyrie engine is a six cylinder boxer.
Jeff

The new 2.3 litre , water cooled , in line , three cylinder Rocket Three engine may be worth a look.
The crankshaft runs North / South and the gearbox is 5 speed with a shaft drive.

Just a thought.

larry, the enigne has no problem pulling the weight of the car, the problems lie in the tranny and clutch not being designed for the torque required to get this weight up and running on a daily basis. i have never driven one but i am just repeating the info from the 16valve mini club board from folks that have built these cars, jim
