MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Bosch alternator?

Hi
Anyone running a Bosch alternator? I found some info and pics on the web of one from a 4 cyl mid '70s capri, and it fits the rover 3500 cradle just right. Anyone know where I can source one of these? The local parts chains can;t even order them. Any help ie. part number, vendor, etc or lucas units that will fit would be very helpful. Anyone willing to part with one can email me, I have a Delco 100 amp unit that Id be willing to trade for it.
Jake

Jake, what's the amp rating? If you've got a 100-amp unit why the heck get rid of it? You're sure this will clear the RHS valve cover? ... even the OE Motorola, which isn't very deep, is a fairly tight fit in this regard.
Ted

Ted,
I already have the cradle from a rover P5B that Id like to use, the Delco will fit that but I would have to rig up a rear support. I know the Bosch will fit, Ive seen pics of it on another V8 conversion. I guess it just comes down to preference, I don't plan on drawing too much current, the Bosch is supposed to be a 55 or 65 amp unit, and I would like it to look european what with the factory SU setup and all.
Jake

Jake,
I have a Bosch K1 14v 35 A20 from a 1971 Volvo on my 2.8 V6 MGA conversion. It is 35 amps and works fine. The regulator is external so it is a fairly short alternator.

I'm using Bosch alts. on both my cars with the old style P5B/P6B mounting cradle.They were both made in Australia & came out of a Chrysler Valiant of the 70s & a Ford Falcon also of the 70s. The one from the Valiant has the following #s :-

9 120 060 070
U-K1-> 14V 40A 23
4252143
This one has been upgraded to 85Amps using the internals from a later Bosch alt. (the new alt. woudn't fit in the mounting cradle)

The one from the Ford has the following #s

9 120 060 860
U-K1->14v 55A 20

80DA-10800-AA
MOTORCRAFT
This one had been upgraded to 70 amps. before I bought it.
I doubt if Ford or Chrysler used these in the US. Australian built cars tend to use as much local content as possible. HTHs I can send pix if you want. Barrie E

Jake,
You might think about spacing the Rover P5/P6 cradle (and pump pully) forward, if you need room. I had to in order to use the SD1 balancer/pully and the std rangerover water pump.
Three 21mm blocks of aluminium between the head and the cradle and a 1cm spacer on the water pump (actually 3 small blocks, one for each bolt)lined everything up.
It didn't effect radiator clearance because the middle of the water pump still projects an inch or so.

Most automotive technicians in Oz would agree that Bosch is the most reliable. I have a 55a fitted which fits the P6B cradle with a couple of spacers. I have also used the P6B adjustment bracket.

The model I have is probably the same as Barrie's;(55a) it is ideal and fits in front of the right side rocker cover nicely (some alternators are too long) this also clears the remote oil filter. These Bosch alternators are still available new here.

Something I thought was important - I fitted the alternator fan guard from a P6B around the Bosch with a very small modification.

Ok heres the scoop. I went to the local auto electric shop, and asked for a '71-'74 Mercury Capri alternator and the actually had a rebuilt one in stock. 55A Total damages with tax: $51.
I just put it on the cradle to make certain that it would fit and it does quite nicely, the pulley line right up, no spacers needed. The plug arrangement on the back is coincidentally the same plug as on late MGB's. Go figure. Anyways I will have pics of it up on my webpage soon, both on and off the motor. The address is

then click on the V8 license plate. Hope this info is helpful to someone in the future. If anyone is interested, there is one on ebay right now. That address is:
