MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - British V8 2006
Greetings, Event details and the registration form are now available at http://www.britishv8.org Or, if you want to go direct to the 2006 info: http://www.britishv8.org/Events/2006meet.htm I'm hoping to have another great event, in the spirit of past events, so sign up and come on down! I need volunteers for tech sessions - any takers? |
Dan Masters |
Hi Dan, I'll volunteer to do a tech session on the 302 conversion, plus if you need an auctioneer let me know !! :) Cheers Pete |
Pete Mantell |
Why not do a tech session that ACTUALLY installs a rover motor into say, a rubber bumper shell, then give it away to a registrant of the show? Lots of vendors could be involved in supplying parts for the motor/trans, and it would be a GREAT way to show how easy it is to swap into a rubber bumper shell. Talk about a super informative tech session! You go to the show, see lots of beautiful cars, watch a motor get put into a car, then take the motor home and put it into your own car! Just an idea... |
Justin |
Dan... Jean and I will be there, and I'll help any way that I can. You've listed some great activities...did I miss which days we will doing what? ie----When is the paddleboat, when is the BBQ, etc. I ask only because I have to bug out early to get MG 2006 rolling in Gatlinburg. Cheers! rick ingram |
rick ingram |
Pete, You're on! thanks. Justin, That sounds pretty ambitious, but if there are any volunteers, I'd be happy to set it up. Any takers? Rick, The BBQ is on Wednesday, and the River boat cruise is on Tuesday. The tentative schedule, subject to minor changes, for British V8 2006 is: SUNDAY: 7:00pm: Beer and Burgers - Cookout/welcome party. Hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue, beer, wine, sodas. MONDAY: 9:00am: Drive to Newfound Gap atop the Smokys for a spectacular view and a very scenic drive up. 12:00pm: Catered picnic at metcalf bottoms - Fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, cold cuts, fresh salads, soft drinks 2:00pm: Drive to Tuckalleechi Caverns, a very interesting cave, similar to the Lost Sea (minus the sea). 5:00pm: Tech sessions 7:00pm: Show and Tell, parking lot BS sessions TUESDAY: 8:00: Drive through Cases cove, an 11 mile, one way road through an old pioneer setlement, with several old cabins, a water wheel flour mill, cantilever barns, etc, all open to visiters. Or Autocross. 12:00pm: Tame the DRAGON! 318 turns in 11 miles - what else needs to be said? 3:00pm: Tech sessions. 7:00pm: Paddle-Wheel river boat dinner cruise (we'll need to leave the motel at 5:30. It's about an hour's drive, and the boat starts loading at 6:30, leaving the dock at 7:00. The boat cruise is about 2 hours long) WEDNESDAY: 8:00am: Breakfast run to the "Top of the World" Coffee and doughnuts with a view at the end of a very scenic drive! 10:00: Have another go at the mighty DRAGON! 3:00pm: Tech sessions. 5:00pm: Auction/swap meet/door prize drawing. Bring along all those old parts you no longer need. Sell them and buy others parts you do need. 7:00pm Barbecue. Same as last time - BBQ pork, chicken AND ribs - you won't go away hungry. 8:00pm: Blue Grass Band. The same band as last time, I hope. If not, an equally good band. Admission to the Cavern and the river boat cruise are not included in the registration. Every thing else is. I don't expect any major changes to the schedule, just minor tweaks, but I will post the final schedule around the first of the year. |

Looking good, guys. DRAGON after breakfast? Recommend you distribute barf bags to every participant. Or at least the passenger. Hope to make it, we could use some helpful inspiration in planning 2007 here in SF Wine Country. Tom |

re: Looking good, guys. DRAGON after breakfast? Recommend you distribute barf bags to every participant. Or at least the passenger. **************** Not to worry....as "Resident Pharmacist", I will have plenty of Dramamine on hand for those in need. rick |
rick ingram |
Dan, Thanks for your efforts.Sounds like a Meet not to miss. Will you be driving the Dragon in your British car this time? Terri and I are planning to do the whole week of MG festivities. Can't wait to see everyone. Mike |

Sue and I are really looking forward to the meet. I have a 266" Olds stroker about 1/3 done, so we WILL have the B there this time. Dan, anything at all I can help with, just let me know. |
Kurt Schley |
Kay and I have reservations for the entire week and are really looking forward to all the activities. On a side note, we spent a few days last week on vacation in western NC. On the way back I took rt. 28 north up to Deals Gap (the store was closed)The drive over the Dragon was beautiful, although I did not make great time in my Durango (even with the hemi!)The high point was when a young kid on a Buell passed me with a thumbs up and was out of site within 10 seconds!! I can take some solace though, knowing that the next time I do the Dragon, it will be in my 4.3L V6 Sebring gt....can't wait!! |
Mike Maloney |
Dan, I'll be there the entire week, and possibly a few days early. Just let me know what you want me to do! Pete, I'll back you up with anything you need :) Right after we "run um again!!) |

It's great to see all the wives that are going. My 25th Anniversary is on May 30th. I almost have Marcia talked into making this are anniversary. She said if she goes she does not want anyone to know it's are 25th,because no man would take his wife to a car gathering on that date. So please keep it to your self. Now my question, will someone be planing anything extra for the ladies only. Denny/Hamilton,Ohio |
dbw |
"Now my question, will someone be planing anything extra for the ladies only?" We can. What would the wives like? I'm open to suggestions. It has been suggested that perhaps a shopping trip to Pigeon Forge and/or Gatlinburg may be worthwhile? The drives to Newfound Gap and Cade's Cove, the trip to Tuckalleechi Caverns, and the River Boat dinner cruise should all appeal to the ladies. My wife is hand knitting a beautiful afgan to give away as a door prize to one of the ladies (she does beautiful work). |
Dan Masters |
Shopping trip, that's the only sport my wife partcipates in. She love's taking ride's. The shopping trip will top it off just right. How generous of your wife to making the afgan. Denny |
dbw |
Plenty of shopping in nearby Pigeon Forge. In fact, she can catch a trolley in Gatlinburg and make the circuit...then you can arrange to pick her up in Gatlinburg at the end of the day to take a leasurely drive back to Townsend on the Great River Road. rick |
rick ingram |
Denny, I took my wife to the scca spring runoffs at Road America on our honeymoon. Of course, it was on the way home after we spent a week in Door County, but it doesn't change the fact that she's a pretty cool wife! Ryan |
Ryan Reis |
Last time we were in Townsend Wife and I spent a day at the Biltmore. From what I remember it was an hour + drive from Townsend. I found the place interesting. www.biltmore.com/ |
Jim Miller |
Things to bring to the meet, Mmmmm U joints, U joints bolts, oil cooler lines, water pump gaskets, Crank bearings, fuel filters, do not forget to remove those inexpensive fuel regulators, fuel filters and fan belt. Those are the items that were needed last year, right Steve, Pete. |
Bill Guzman |
My wife HATES shopping the MGB stroker V8 with Nitrous is hers, not mine and she loves driving it hard! She is also a cool woman and wife. In fact she just bought herself a new (in May) 2005 Subaru WRX STi, which we have already started to mod. |
Michael S. Domanowski |
My wife is a "gearhead" as well...she hates to shop..found my first MGC for me in St.Louis...and let me buy a second MGC just last week...let me do the V8 conversion on the GT...didn't want dual SU's on the '78B but had a big smile on her face after she drove it for the first time with them on...yep...she's a "keeper". rick |
rick ingram |
Bill, remember that is a special water pump gasket, I'll send you the numbers :) Smart---! Steve |

We had about 55 registrations last year in Terre Haute...and I think about that many when we were in Townsend in 2003 for British V8...how many can we pull this time? For those of you who have not been to the area, it is a sportscar lovers dream when it comes to roads and attractions...additionally, I believe that the Knoxville hot rod nationals will once again be held about the time that we'll be there... Get those reservations into Dan ASAP! rick |
rick ingram |
We had 54 in '03, but I'm hoping for at least 75 in '06. I echo Rick's comments - git those registrations in! Right now, we only have 6 - we need at least 69 more. The street rod show is in early May, so it won't be going on at the same time as our event like the last time. I asked for a vote online for early May to coincide with the street rod show, or in June to be just before MG 2006. I got 5 votes - 2 for May and 3 for June. June it is. Being able to get both the V8 meet and MG 2006 all in the same week is a deal hard to beat. Actually, spending a week in east Tenessee is a deal in itself that's hard to beat, getting to drive an LBC is just frosting on the cake. Come on down! |
Dan Masters |
Dan...I was confused... There is a First Annual Good Guys Hot Rod show being held at Titan Arena in Nashville from the 23rd thru the 25th. I was thinking Knoxville. I bit of a drive from Townsend...but these cars are made for driving! rick |
ric ingram |
Dan Made my hotel res today and my registration will be mailed in next week --so count me in !! All the best --Gil |
Gil Price |
Where are the entries? So far, only 6 people have signed up. Come on, guys, send those registrations in! I know it's early, but I'll sleep better at night knowing I have my expenses covered. Actually, I just wanted to bump this thread back up to the top. |
Dan Masters |
Dan, I have downloaded the forms and am in the process of filling them out. The check is not in the mail yet...but will be shortly -bcw |
Bruce Wyckoff |
I talked to my dad about it last week, and he's definitely interested in going again. We had a blast the last time around! I like that it's in June - gives me more time to play with my car after the winter thaw hits. I'm pretty sure I need a new rear axle (getting a clunk) so maybe I'll try to secure funds for a mig welder and install my IRS (that I've been sitting on for like 3 years now!) |
Justin |
Dan, I can't bear the thought of your lost sleep weighing heavily on my conscience....so, the registration was mailed yesterday. Reading the BBS posts lately and the interest that seems to be generated in the 2006 meet, I'm anticipating a record turnout in Tennessee. Come on guys! Make a commitment and get those registrations to Dan. |
Graham Creswick |
Dan- Sent money on Monday. How about a rundown on the hotels? Which is the hotel of choice? |
Jim Stuart |
Jim, The host Motel is the Talleyho Inn, just a couple of miles towards the smokies from where we were in 2003. Be sure to mention the British V8 meet to get your discount. http://www.talleyhoinn.com/ |
Dan Masters |
Dan, Just completed the registration form and will mail it tomorrow. Mary and I have just looked over the list of events and can't wait until June. It's going to be another GREAT!! experience. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Paul |
Paul & Mary Schils |
Dan, I'll sign up when I see you at Ted's Steve |
Steve Carrick |
Dan, the registration and the check went out in todays mail. I am particularly enthusiastic today as all the issues on my red sebring gt(4.3 V6) have been sorted out in the last few days and I've been driving with abandon in this 55* weather we have been enjoying the last week or so in SW Ohio. Kay and I both are looking forward to seeing all you guys in June! Mike Maloney |
Mike Maloney |
Hi, Dan , The check is in the mail as of this morning! I plan on being there for both meets. I hope to see you at Ted's. Regards, Jack |

Dan... I'll see you in Michigan in a couple of weeks. I'll give you a check then..these postal rates are killing me (only kidding)...(about the postal rates)... rick |

If Jack and Graham send theirs, then I am send my registration Friday or Monday. It looks like I will flying instead of driving. It would mean 15 days for me. 4-5 days one way plus return plus a week of events= 15 + days. Jack are you staying in the hotel? |
Bill Guzman |
Bill, Registration already sent in and Dan has cash in the spoils - room reserved at the Tally-Ho....so, I've made the commitment....Now it's your turn, me old China! Jack, I believe has his campsite picked out down the road in Townsend. At this point, neither of us has a navigator. |
Graham Creswick |
I am in Graham. I need a vacation, I have not had one since I retired. |
Bill Guzman |
Hi, Bill, You are welcome to ride along with me. I was really hoping to see one of your B's in person. They look good in all the pics. I have reservations at the Little River Campground, 8533 State Hwy 73. I am also staying for MG2006 > www.MG2006.com <. Little River is close to both Meets. Regards, Jack |
John Renaud |
4-5 days? Come on Bill, I thought you were a driver. :) |
Carl Floyd |
Bill! Common, man...make the drive! It's worth the time invested in the drive! (I've made the trek to the left coast three times in an MG now!)It was 3 days to Tahoe, 4 days to Vancouver, 4 days to Olympia for me. Townsend is about an additional 8 hours east for you. rick |
rick ingram |
Rick, 4 days plus 8 hrs = 5 days? X 2= 10 I now Rick it would be worth it. I am still contemplating doing the trip. I just have some other obligations to meet in about the same time is the meet. I am still thinking about it. I may ship the car to save time. |
Bill Guzman |
Thanks Jack, looking foward to seen you again. |
Bill Guzman |
Dan: I've been hanging out on this board for 3+ years and have been working on my v8 conversion for 4 years. I'm quite sure that the car will be driving by then (even though the finish deadline was last September) as the drive train and underneath the car are totally done with the exception of the speedo hookup. However, the body and interior are next on the list and will take some time as I'm doing most of it myself. I'm not sure if I'll want to attempt a 3000+ mile round trip in an unproven car. That being said, I am coming and my registration is in the mail and reservations made at the Tally Ho. I will likely be bringing the family sedan but may tow the Kawasaki to have a go at the Dragon. Looking forward to kicking the tires on a lot of great cars and putting faces to some of the names I see here. Phil Ossinger New Bruswick Canada |

Phil! Great that you're coming to Townsend! Will see/meet you there! rick |
rick ingram |
the "COMMITTED" list is impressive, I plan to be there also; since its in my home state. MUST-B (1978 MGB/1993 Mustang Drive Train)is probably as complete as it will ever be. wish you'all a safe and pleasant journey. SEE'YA IN TOWWSEND |

Phil Great to see that you are going to TN --be nice to meet you in person All the best Gil |
Gil Price |
OK, re-arranged my schedule. I will be driving to TN in June 06. I send my entry fee to Mr. Masters and made my reservations for both events (V8MG and MG 2006) Plan to arrive 17 June. I need someones cell phone to keep in touch and....directions once I get near the gathering. Total miles from my house to the hotel 2257 miles one way. |
Bill Guzman |
Bill...I just sent you an e-mail.....rick |

re: Total miles from my house to the hotel 2257 miles one way. *********** You can do it Big Guy! I've done what is basically the same trip (maybe a little more)in an MG three times in the past 10 years. GREAT that you're coming in an MG! rick |

Things are moving along very nicely. I now have 26 entries, with 19 guests, for a total of 45 folks coming. 26 entries is pretty good for this early in the registration process, but I'm sure hoping for a lot more! We had 54 in '03, but I'm hoping for 75 this year. Here's who I have so far: Bierman, Ken Burstyn, David Carrick, Steve Creswick, Graham DeGroat, Stephen Doyle, Denny Guzman, Bill Knaut, Andy Leichti, Harvey Maloney, Mike Mangles, John Masters, Dan Moor, Richard Ossinger, Phil Pender, Ian Posey, Bernie Price, Gil Renaud, Jack Robinson, Barrie Schils, Paul Schley, Kurt Smith, Peter Stevenson, Kelly Stuart, Jim Williams, Roger Wulf, Al C'mon, guys (and gals), let's get your name on the list! |
Dan Masters |
With the above posted group of renegades, you can bet that my entry will soon be in the mail! I simply cannot allow any debauchery to occur in my absence...there is a standard to meet! Oh yeah...the tech sessions and general comaradarie are pretty good, too....OK they're GREAT! rick |
