MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Buick 300

I picked up a '64 Buick 300 4 bbl rebuilt at a local engine shop. It had about 5 hours on it when I bought it. Bored .030, new bearings, etc. Heads machined, no corrosion. Nice. Anyone interested before I slap it or it's parts on e-bay and the BBS for sale? I'd consider a swap for a 3.0 axle ready to bolt in. e-mail me at dgable@vac-con.com if interested.

If I might ask, why is it you are not using the 300? It is an excellent choice for an easy engine swap, weighs in only about 50 lbs heavier than the "B" series engine and is durable and powerful. It is a formidable alternative to the Ford 302 as it is a simple bolt-in swap and displacement can be increased up to 350 without too much difficulty. If you decided on a different engine I am most curious why?

The 300 Buick doesn't use the smaller 215 style bellhousing. So, it is not as easy as the 215 in a swap.

But I guess if you can do a BBB swap, you probably consider the 300 an easy swap.

Ask Mike Moore or Jim Stuart. They both run 300 SBB's.

Actually that later bellhousing opens up a wide range of transmission options including just about every transmission GM has used in the last 30 years. The extra strength of an iron block is a nice thing to have as well. The double (starter)ear bellhousing is common as dirt and the extra ear can be easily cut off. If you like the opening can be heliarced shut, or for the sticklers among us there is a less common single ear bell.

If you have a 1964 Buick 300 with aluminum heads, you have a real sweet piece. 5.0L cheap, bolt in using 215/Rover MGB swap motor mounts, cheap bell housing- I got a Poncho GTO with a single starter bulge for $40.00 on E-bay- Bolts up to a Chevy T-5, also the very under-rated 200R4 overdrive auto bolts up to the 300 block without an adapter and looks like it will clear the MG tunnel without any mods.

Rover/215 headers, block huggers and RV8 both fit, 500CFM carb is plenty, even with a bigger cam.

I've reconsidered my situation and have, with the advice of Jim and Jim, decided to keep my 300 and sell the rest of my V8 parts. I have quite a selection including two complete, low mileage engines. Here is a link to the list. Thanks!
