MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Crank Shaft Pulley
Hey Guys, Has anyone had any problems with using the harmonic balancer machined as the crankshaft pulley? i.e. the change in weight of the harmoic balancer causing crankshaft vibrations. When I asked a machinest to do this for me he looked at me like I was crazy. Also how many people have used this method? Spriggsie |

Clem, I think your machinist is crazy.I use this method on my roadster. The weight doesn't alter from a radial point of view & what about the sedan versions that have multiple pulleys bolted on for A/C, power steering etc.HTHs Barrie E |

Great idea Clem. Try another machinist, it may be different, but I would think they would want to see something new rather than just grinding cranks and blocks +.003 all day long.. |

Barrie, Your argument is the same one that I put to him the change in rotational mass varies with the load on the alternator and the other engine driven accessories, thanks for the response. Spriggsie |

I had my harmonic balancer machined per the diagram by a mechanic for Indy 500 cars. He did not bat an eye and I think he would have said something if he thought the idea was bad. Richard Porter |

If the harmonic balancer is the same as the crankshaft pulley, then there is a drawing on page 26 of Roger Williams book which shows how this pulley can be machined to accept a fan belt. Richard |

Hey Guys, I just wanted some support that it would not cause crankshaft vibrations, thanks. Spriggsie |
