MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Driveshaft

The car has been driving for the past week, now that the rear springs are getting some work, theyre starting to settle. This is causing the driveshaft to migrate upward into the tranny tunnel and consequently come in contact with the bolt from the parking brake lever. Anyone else had this problem? Im running a 2.5" driveshaft. Now my two questions.
1. Has anyone modified the parking brake lever so the bolt sticks through into the cockpit?
2. Should I just have the driveline shop remake the driveline with 2" tubing, or can they put in a short section of 2" right where there is contact?
Thanks for the help.
Jake

I guess it depends on engine/tranny/rear installation. Mine use to rub ever so slighty (scribed mark on driveshaft). I just cut off a few threads on bolt. Quick and easy.

Hey Jake,
I used a thick walled 2 inch drive shaft used on many Chevy trucks and also used for dirt track racing. A 2 inch thick wall can handle well over what you are throwing at it. I guess you could add a smaller section on to your shaft, but that isn't really the best design and would be tougher to get true. I don't think it would brake and if you can have it done cheaply and you’re in a pinch, do it. It will probably be worth changing the whole shaft in the long run.

Jake , so am I re 2.5. I set the thing up so I've Just got 10mm clearance either side, ie the gear box is a little (about 3 to 5mm) to the port side. Which isn't much use to you. Probably the best way is to cut off a part of the bolt and the nylox part of the nut , then use some kind of thread locking fluid to make sure it stays put. YOu should get at least 5mm that way.
Peter

I gained enough clearance simply by changing the nut to a thinner jam nut and then sawing off the end off the bolt.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I will just get the tube section remade in 2" tubing. They told me they can reuse my new u joints, and the cost of two tube yokes and tubing is around $40. If that doesn't totally cure it, Ill work with the parking brake again.
