MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Engine Breather filter???

Just reading through the GT V8 owners handbook I aquired recently I noticed the Flame Traps and Engine Breather Filters need replacing at 24k/2-years. Anyway I had a quick look under the bonnet and I can only find the 2 Flame Traps. The diagram in the handbook shows the engine breather filter attached to the back of the air-box - mine isn't there. I have had a poke around with a torch but I can't find anything that looks like the filter, or any hoses where it should be attached.

The car runs fine but I assume this is needed?

You might have a replacement engine. The later engines from SD1s didn't have the breather at the back of the block.Barrie E

There should be a tube sticking out the back of the block towards the right-hand side, well hidden if the airbox and carbs are in place, you will have to feel around. A right-angle rubber hose points upwards from here, and something very much like a fuel line filter fits down into that secured by a 2" or so metal ring bolted to the back of the air-box. The suction side is a flame-trap off each rocker cover piped to each SU carb. Without twin carbs the suction side tended to be a single pipe to one rocker cover with a filter letting air in on the other, the pipe at the back being sealed off. If you have the twin SUs and the two flame traps then either the rear pipe has beens sealed off in which case there is no crankcase breathing which can cause condensation and corrosion, or the pipe is open and you are constantly drawing dirty air through the engine.

Thanks for the replies. I will roll the sleaves up and have a look. Thanks steve for emailing me the parts that I am missing.

OK, just had a look and there is a pipe at the rear of the block behind the carburettors, slightly to the left when looking at the car front on. It is about 5mm and brass or similar (quite dirty though) and points upwards. A pipe comes out of the block horizontally pointing towards the back of the car, this is sealed but another pipe is connected to this at a right-angle (T-junction like) and this is the one that points upwards. There is nothing connected to this pipe so I assume its here where the filter (and hoses) should attach?

To further pi$$ me off the front brakes have ceased..............

You are right, I had a look at mine and the pipe from the block does point upwards. There is an 'S'-shaped hose on that also pointing upwards, the filter pushes down into that and into the mounting clip, then there is a 'U'-shaped hose on top of the filter to prevent water and dirt falling into it. I am sending a labelled photo direct. Incidentally, thanks for asking the question, when I looked at mine to verify the arrangement I noticed everything was present but the filter was not engaged with the 'S--shaped hose!
