MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Extra cross-member!
Looking for more rigidity in my GT body I came up with an easy modification of welding another cross-member under the front of each floor plan parallel to the existing one, connecting the sill section to the middle chassis rail. The cross-member repair sections are available for a few pounds and require only shortening. This area has always concerned since I saw a MGBV8 in which the driver’s legs had been crushed after a particularly bad accident. The only resistance to the sill entering the foot well is the floor pan. This modification makes the foot-well a box, and has the double effect of increasing body rigidly and increasing driver/passenger safety. I have a Jpeg of my modification if anyone would like it Emailed to them Nick |

I would like to see this mod. as well, but wouldn't it be easier to send the jpeg to Mike at barnes2@arkansas.net? He could add it to the V8 conversion web page for all to see. |

Carl I have sent the JPeg to Mike, with a covering letter. Lets see whats happens. I will add it to my website shortly which is still under development. Nick |

Nick: Nice job. But what is that suspension I see up there? Ball joints and coil overs? Is it the factory new stuff or did you engineer it? Pete 67gt |

Its Jaguar wishbone fully independant suspension front and rear, not tested yet though. See Website http://www.v8mgbgt.demon.co.uk/ I don't have any close-up photos yet as the suspension has not been powder coated yet. Nick |

Nick: Quit your job and get back to work on your website!!! As older jags are quite cheap in Canada (sedans) I am curious what model jag you chose? I can see where the Sebring flares would come in handy with those tires. Keep up the good work and keep posting Pete 67gt. |

Hi Pete, I would love to fiddle with my MG all day, but it doesn't pay the bills. In fact the even when I do work the bills don't get paid because of it. Both ends are XJ6 4.2, the front is 1976 and the rear 1974. I had all the front carriers and rear sub-frame shortening engineered professionally. I may be able to road test it next March, and then give an opinion as the whether it is a viable way to go. Hopefully by then I will have a digital camera and can report on ot in more detail. Nick |
