Price increased by $11,000 in the last 45 minutes.

I was under the impression there were more Factory V8's here in the US that 10.. But good for him getting a good price for the car..

Nice that it still is in original form also, dual SU's, etc..

looks like Markei27 got nervous at the end, OR was trying to get the reserve..

Nothing against this seller, as he did not do it, but more than a few sellers have had friends bid things up, so sometimes it is best to not just throw your max bid out there right off. As they will sit there and nickle and dime the price up..
Larry Embrey

larry, i would be willing to bet that this car resurfaces o ebay or another site in the near future. 22,500 i am very leary of this bidder. i have bought several mini's from overseas and kept one and resold others, the broker i use in NL has a dealer that he sells to in the south and has told me that this fellow bids his own auctions for the minis he brings in. this is the worst side of ebay, i have watched many of his sales and he ALWAYS lists as no reserve but some how always gets his price of 9k or above. we will just have to wait and see on this gt, he did have some wrong statements in his listing, you can now import any factory v8 as they are all old enough. jim

Now I am interested. Who's your broker in the Netherlands?

I learned from Wayne Kube (Plano, TX) that this particular V8 will be residing in Texas. Mark Trosper is the new owner.

rick, that sounds great if the sale goes thru, i might have to bring over a factory gt, you can purchase excellent shape unmolested ones for 8 to 10k usd all day long and the import including shipping, customs, taxes, and everything for under $2400, looks like a good profit to me. do you think mark would like one for his wife? frank, sorry, but no need to give out my guys name as he is very honest and i have had nothing but positive delaings with him. jim

Interesting discussion....I'll contact Wayne and see if he knows the inside info on Mr.Trosper, etc.

Cheers!

rick

Wait a minute.....hey I'm a MEMBER of this list! ;-)

So what was the total number of Factory V8's imported?? Anyone know??
Larry Embrey

officially by the factory, none, I believe. There were a handful of left hand drive prototypes and a couple of those found their way over and then a few have been privately imported over the years. I think the total is around 12 cars, Paul K in Sacramento has one and knows most details as he has in the past kept tabs on current owners.

Hi, Folks

The last time I checked, there were about 15-17 cars in North America. Canada has a number of them as well as the US.

Looking at the photos of the ebay car, I can only wonder what the underside looks like. My car (Teal Blue GD2D1 889G) was "restored" in 1989-90, and was virtually held together with Bondo. Mine looked great in photos as well, and from about 5 feet away. Had a non-standard paint job and interior (was painted Jaguar "shire blue", with a blue leather interior).

I would be willing to bet that most of those $8-10 grand V-8s coming out of the UK have at least some rust - it's just the nature of things over there for cars of that vintage. Also you have to be careful - that 25 year exemption just applies to DoT regs - you still have a bunch of State emissions standards that still apply. A few years ago, there was a well-known V-8 conversion specialist here in the US that mentioned that he had a whole warehouse of Factory V-8s in England waiting for that magic 25-year exemption to kick in. He was going to import them to the US. I wonder whatever happened with that scheme?

As David from Berkshire knows, I have completely re-restored mine to original Factory specs. Now I've got a car that I can't have fun driving! My family forbids me to sell it, but my ratchet hand is getting itchy. I bought an old MG 1100 to restore just as a driver, to keep busy.

I love the V-8, but one of these days someone is going to have to offer me a good price for it. I get most of my kicks in restoring them anyway, and I need to free up some capital. I might get really masochistic and buy an old Lotus or something...

And if you can get the info on Mr. Trosper, please let me know here - I've got a lot of info and research done on these cars, if he intends to do any further restoration work. I would also like to update my list of Factory car owners.

Cheers,
Paul Kile

....someone tell me what "non-member" means? I have been posting to this list since 1996, and I have a member password (which I can never remember and never use!).

Cheers again,

Paul,

It just means you haven't logged in! Perhaps our webmaster ought to change the wording to "Not logged in"
Chris Betson

Does anyone cecall the web site address, in order to log in? It's been a long time since I've logged in.
John

The name Trosper definitely rings a bell to me. I can't place a finger on it, but I think I have heard of him in the V8 conversions scene if not on this board.

These was a V8 at our last ABFM in Bellevue, that people said was a original V8, but it hade been modified with a 2bb/4bbl intake and carb. (another person not wanting to tune SU's maybe??)

Wow, I thought there were more than that many over here, shows why the price went so high..
