MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Ford 4.6 L V8 in MGB?

Is the 4.6 Liter Ford engine a candidate for an MGB transplant? The aluminum block and heads should be an advantage from a weight standpoint.

Ive been told that those engines are huge, I also had the same thought.

Rod,

I looked into using the 4.6 & 5.4 SOHC & DOHC V8's in 1998 when I started planing a conversion.
The motors are much wider than the 302 and the aluminum block 4.6 DOHC weighs in at around 521 lbs. The iron 302 block with aluminum heads weighs around 424 lbs.
So I opted for a 302 conversion which I have been very happy with ever since.

Here is an interesting hot rodders site that covers engine weights:

I had a complete 4.6 engine in the shop which I was cannibalizing for fuel injection and ignition components for my EFI blower 215, which I had on the engine stand at the time. The 4.6 was so large physically that I didn't even bother to try setting it in the MGB engine bay to see how it would look, even though the hoist was available and I could have. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but *I'm* not interested in trying it. For those of you who have seen my work I'd say that does say something.

I just talked this over with a fellow mustang guy.. he made the comment that the 4.6L is not really any lighter than the 5.0.. but it does rev a bit higher and I think has greater Hp potential from the factory...

The engine at least the V4 version is wider then a 429 Big Block ford. The one in my Cobra is huge and the 4.6 2V is wide. I am going to say it would not fit in my MG without a lot of serious modifications.
