MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - gas cap
I removed the fuel vapor recovery system from my car 77B and pluged the vent line. Now I need a vented gas cap. Well, finding one locally hasn't been successful. The technical specialist at Moss said I needed to change the tube to the earlier style designed for a vented cap. I'm sure I've read on one of the treads here that other MGB V8 enthusiasts have converted to a vented cap system. Is there a vented cap available that will fit the 1977 filler tube? Thanks |

Rick, drill a hole in the flap inside of the filler neck, and another hole in the side of the vent tube just outside of the car. I'm e-mailing you two pics of what I did. Justin |

Justin, I only drilled the hole in the gas cap. Seems to do the job. |

The vented gas cap has a spring-loaded valve to prevent fuel escaping in the event of a roll-over. Holes in the neck inside the boot would result in trapped fumes and an explosion hazard, I would have thought. There is nothing to be gained by removing the canister and vent lines unless you are unable to have a purge line from the engine breathing system, and even then there is no real harm done. |

Justin, Thanks for the photos. That will do the trick. Carl, Paul, and ichael thanks for the comments. I removed mine to clean up the engime comparment. I move the washer bottle into the space the canister once occupied. Now it is less cluttered and there is more space. |
