MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Getting hold of a lt77 gearbox
Still waiting to start my conversion as i am struggling to get hold of a LT77 2600/3500cc gearbox, Does anyone know of somewhere in UK where i can get hold of either a recon box or one in need of reconditioning? Thanks Graham |

I really struggled, in the end I bought a running SD1 for 650 the box seemed fine. You can get them on ebay inknown condition, if you are happy to recondition. They are invariably local collection only! Plus there are a few reconditioned ones on there from a couple of reputable suppliers every now and then. Better to buy a whole car ?, try Item number: 4612936229 Took me 6 months to find the right car but I made more on ebay selling the bits I didnt need than the car cost. |

Rimmers of Lincoln. I have a spare if you get stuck. Roger |

Graham, the 5 speed TR 7 also had this gearbox fitted. Ralph |

Does the TR7 use the same bell housing and spigot bearing / input shaft dimensions as the V8 version? |

I bought a complete SD1 for £250. Seemed the most cost effective route. Dear God, was that car rusty! Mike |

David: The TR7 input shaft size is the same as the SD1/TR8. The bell housing, through out brg collar and pivot are different. Also the remote control is a different length. The gear ratios are different, but basically the box itself would be useful. Buying an SD1 is going to be the most cost effective, but after just parting one out I can say there is a lot of work getting rid of one. Kelvin. |

SD1's - if you could sell holes and rust on ebay I'd be a millionare. |

Liam: If frt charges were cheaper, I'd be happy to send you a rust free SD1 body. Some assembly required. Kelvin. |

Graham Try uwa@londoncharities.com For info - I have used a TR8 bellhousing with an LT77S - puts the gearlever a little further aft but otherwise seems OK. |
