MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Group A V8 engine
We've someone with what he understands to be a group A Rover V8 engine. He's looking for valve train items (valves, rockers, pushrods, solid lifters) some (most?) of which seem to be Volvo origin. Can anyone point him in the right direction? Paul |

It is necessary to read an excellent book : Tuning Rover V8 engine (David Hardcastle) . All explanations inside. Regards |

Thanks - but he already has the book, what he wants to know is where he can get replacement parts. Anyone got any clues? Paul |

Check with RPI Engineering in the UK www.v8engines.com They may be able to help out. |

Thanks Simon, had a look there before but obviously not hard enough. I'll try again Paul |

Paul, They used the Volvo parts because there was only that, now there is other parts available. To my rover 3.5 engine fitted in my mgb v8conversion, I have build my own rocker gear, I use Keyne Bell rocker shaft, steel pillar with outer outrigger pedestal built by my machinist with my own drawing, ARP bolts, steel rockers arms, ally spacers, I use Crane cams pushrod and Edelbrock cam follower, the camshaft is Piper285, Edelbrock cam gears, duplex chain and a cam thrust bolt. For the cylinder heads I use 1.63” (41.35mm) intake valves, 1.40” (35.5mm) exhaust valves, uprated valve springs with original spring retainers. The ports are reshaped and polished by me. I use ARP head studs. This engine work very well. I bought all the parts to Real Steel in England. Regards http://www.v8tuner.co.uk http://www.real-steel.demon.co.uk |

Thanks Michael, I'll check it out. The tricky part of this one is that the owner wants the engine back to "original" spec (ie how it was modified in the first palce) so we are trying to find the same spec parts it has fitted to it. Paul |

Paul I thing the best guy to talk to would be John Eales of JE Engineering. He should be very familiar with the original, Rover SD1 Vitesse Group A spec cars that were raced in the early 80's. Web Link is http://www.jeeales.co.uk Good luck, Kevin Jackson. |

Paul, Sorry that should be; http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/home.htm Kevin. |

Paul, You could try www.djev8.com They list..."Group A complete set up, arms, steel pillars, pushrods, shafts". Sounds expensive though at £800? I've been told that the SD1 twin plenum engines (which is what I have)had Group A rocker gear, but without the solid lifters. If this is true, it could be another source of parts. These engines are rare, but not as rare as factory Group A engines?! Good luck. |
