I have just finished putting all my engine wires into corrugated ducting and need to finish the ends off with a tape that will "set" with the engine bay heat. i ahve tried ordinary electrical insulting tape but it goes soft and gooey. What I need is heat shrink tape, I know i can get heat shrink sleeving but i cannot find any tape

anyone help please

Not seen heat shrink tape! But you can get an amalgan tape that will do what you want - it is an interleaved tape and your wind it round the required cables removing the interleaf and then over a period of time the tapes weld together.

Try silicone fusion tape. Electricians use it. It creates a water tight seal and it can withstand a few hundred degrees.

May be similar to what Ted is refering to.

Heat shrink tubing, Available at electronic supply stores in different diameters. You need to put it on before the ends are attached.

Moss carries the original blue vinyl flat wrap. I like it much better than the corrugated stuff. The ends can be finished with the self-adhesive rubber tape carried by them and also Eastwood. It's also very good for sealing terminations and connectors to the insulation and wire loom. Liquid electrical tape, a liquified vinyl, is also very good for sealing terminations after soldering and before rubber taping. There. Now you know all my wiring secrets.

Check http://www.daburn.com/st250.html. A non-heat shrink tape good to 130 deg C.

I have used heat shrink tape years ago but cannot find a ready source now.

The tape Ted & Michael are referring to is probably Scotch 70, Self-Fusing, Silicone Rubber,Electrical Tape, made by 3M. It's class H insulation (don't ask me) & is good for 356F temps That's all the info that's on the box. HTHs Barrie E
