MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - HELP
I have had a customer bring me a Costello Conversion. It's #9304 with Costello fuel injection and His gearbox. The doner car was a 66 and it's in a Heritage body shell. He has had it to many shops and it just won't run right. Cranks ok but lacks power. Will run good for a moment then next thing it cuts off. Appears to be injection related. Wireing is very crude and I have no diagram. I work on Bs extensivily and have very limited injection experience. Any ideas? Ask and I shall answer. Bob Thompson/International Auto HELP |

We need to determine what fuel injection system Costello uses. If it's the rover hotwire system then we can make a go of this. Best way to tell: look for the computer brain and see if it says land rover on it, and look for the "14cux" in big bold letters on the label. Justin |

Sounds like a car built in St. Louis a few years ago! |

Gentlemen; I'll check out answers to the above questions tomorrow at the shop. Yes it is a st. Louis car I understand. Bob |

Reading this again. If I follow the question. No it is not a hot wire system. It uses a air flow meter. I do have etensive pictures of the car if any one wants copys. Bob |

Bob, Have you tried Frontline Costello in Bath UK. Costello merged his business with Frontline some years ago. I expect it was some kind of retirement exercise. Anyway they may be able to help you with information about old Costello products. Phone +44 1225 852 777 Email frontline@mgcars.org.uk Good luck David |

Bob.. I've contacted the previous owner (and builder) of this MG. Perhaps he will be able to shed some light on your problem. As I mentioned in my e-mail to you, this is NOT characteristic of this car. rick |

Air Flow Meters are characteristic of the Hotwire Fuel Injection System. If you have the Hotwire System, and the harness is still intact, a Rover dealer could plug it in and tell you what's wrong. Alternatively, there should be a small display about the size of a pack of cards near the computer that tells you how things are running. |

From the original owner/builder: "The wiring was a brand new 1992 Range Rover harness so definitely not 'bodged'." This should help narrow down (unless there have been alterations to the car since it left St.Louis) the problem if it is indeed in the injection system. rick |
