MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Heritage replacement shell

I am rebuilding a Mk 1 (CB) into a Heritage replacement (RB) shell. Among a number of minor differences I have noticed a couple of additional brackets located in a position inboard and above the rear spring front hangers. They almost look like a factory installed version of the upper link bracket in the trailing link suspension pictured and described in Roger Williams book "How to Improve Your MGB...Performance". Either that or it may have been intended for traction control (axle tramp rods).

Out of curiousity does anyone know the exact reason why these might have been included?
Dom

I have a CB, so I'm not fully sure what they are, but I'm hazarding a guess that they have something to do with the anti-roll bar that was on some of the RB cars. CB's never had a sway bar on them, so that's why I'm not sure.

They must be for the anti-tramp rods used on the RV8.

Dom, Out of interest, how much $$ did your heritage shell cost? I have 2 mk1 bodies available for my v8 project but both will require some floor/sill work plus full paint stripping etc - need to decide whether I should spend the money or the time!
Steve

If they are well up above, on the heel board, they are probably for the rear antisway bar. The antitramp bars attach under the springs.
I've often thought that the antisway bar brackets could be easly adapted to a very fine axle triangleation/location set up. Sort of like a heavy antisway bar, cut in the middle.
Hope the project is going well, we were going to meet up at one stage but I got distracted by other things at the time, appologies. Offer still stands if you want to see what I did wrong to my car.
Are you are still doing a V8 conversion?, if so see the thread about EFI fuel supply and save your self some money. Also although Rogers first book "how to give your MGB V8 power" is a very fine book for the most part, do beware of his advice to off set the gear box half an inch to the left. The local engineers don't like it!.

I haven't seen an RB up close yet to see the swaybar mounts. Must have a closer look next time. Did they have a rear antisway bar as standard?

Steve
I obtained the bare shell for around $3k. I am led to believe that you used to be able to get the bare shell - no bolt on panels - for around $9k. I believe now you can only get the complete body/ boot/ bonnet/ guards/ doors ex sydney for $12.5k!!! I found mine by accident surfing the net in a NSW club magazine. Took the family on a holiday and trailed it home (wife and kids flew). No way would I be doing it this way if I had to pay full price.

Peter
Would love to have a closer look and compare notes. Yes I am still thinking V8 especially as I have discovered, since we last emailed, that one of my work collegues has a spare 3.5 converted to celica 5sp c/w with a later LPG head. If I follow up on this I will certainly take on board previous comments re cracking. Might have to factor in some crack testing prior to purchase. Priority at the moment is to continue slowly stripping the body ready for respray.
Dom

Original RBs had a rear anti-roll/sway bar from June 76 for the 77 model year onwards, that is what the mountings will be for.
