MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Hood Pins

Greetings: So far I am just a 4 banger mgb guy. When my engine goes Tango Uniform I plan on a V? conversion. Until then I would like to install 2 hood pins and trash the original locking mechanism for the hood/bonnet. Any recommendations/techniques that you V8ers can offer me? What length and where to get them ??? I have seen pictures of some of your cars and it looks like modifications are numerous so I thought you might be able to help me... Not much response from the other 4 banger site... Thanks for any info you can give me...

Moe,
Pins are a great safety feature. a Number of the mustang guys here wish they had doe that when they got fiberglasshoods and they flex and the stock mech tends to release..

ANYWAY. They should come in a number of sizes. a recommendation I will make is to get the lockable ones if possible. Nothing like having someone pull the pins and steal stuff off your motor while your not looking. Unfortunately it does happen. I think Summit sells the locakble ones.

Moe,

I used hood pins on my conversion.
I'll send you details offline.

I used a pin set which features retaining clips which slide in the mount and aren't removable from the car. It doesn't keep anyone from opening the hood, but it does prevent lost pins. Mine were anodized aluminum which matched the color of my car, but you can get them in natural aluminum and stainless. Check out Pegasus Racing if you can't find anything in your local auto parts store.

Thanks for the inputs. I really want to get away from the standard locking mechanism. I plan to check out the local auto parts places to see if they have a pin set that doesn't look too "Detroit ironish" for my 67 British sportscar.

Moe,

If you want something more appropriate for your '67 look at the leather hood straps that Moss and others sell. I used them on mine, but I also have the Sebring valances, so they finish off that MG Works look.

Either method (pins or straps) would suit a late 60's vintage car.
