MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Horsepower/Torque info?
Have just purchased a 67 MGB V8 roadster. The Seller/builder wouldn't hazard a guess on the horsepower/torgue figures and had never dyno'd it and dynos are few and far between around here. Can anyone hazard a very rough guess for me as to what they might be? Engine specs per builder are: '63 Buick 215 V8 with .040 overbore (9.6 to 1compression), Crower cam and valve train (hydraulic valves), heads port matched with Rover exhaust valves, GM intake with 500cfm Carter 4 barrel, Rover 3500 flywheel lightened to 24lbs. (other non-engine details on the conversion if anyone interested). Thanks. |

Nowhere near the power of 'The Beast'. 4.6 litres of John Eales magic. Six speed ZF (where did I get that from?) X-300 front seats. Leather headling custom made. Beautiful pal, beautiful. |

Too nebulous for even the Nebules! My guess is 3 star-power. How many light-years on that engine? |
Angus |
David, I'd guess around 180/190 bhp. |

Chris: As always, thank you. |

What does a 215 bored .040 over give you in terms of displacement, litre-wise? I'm just interested, in order to guesstimate what a Rover 4.2 would equate to (I'm gonna use massaged heads, Vitesse valves, 9.5:1 CR, an Edelbrock Performer manifold, a Carter 400 carb if I can find one, block-huggers, and just for kicks a pretty big cam.) Haven't thought about flywheels yet. I was hoping to scare up 250-260bhp but maybe that's just out of the question. |

The surface area of a circle is 3.142 x radius x radius. Multiply this by stroke gives the volume of one cylinder. |

Bob, with good heads, high comp, good means of fuel delivery and right exhaust you can easily get 250/260 bhp from a 4.2. Even in standard form the TVR 3.9 makes around 240 bhp, for example. |
