MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - IRS

I got the spindle blanks cut out for the T-bird IRS a couple days ago and laid them out and took a jpg this evening. Hey Larry, want me to send that to you? If you could add it to the page my car is on we could post a link for whoever'd like to have a look at it.

Anyway, they came out pretty good. I still have to machine the bearing bore, the top bushing bore, drill and tap for the lower bushing bolts and then trim off some excess metal, but the hard part's done. One more step completed. By spring it may even be finished.

Sure, send away!! You mad scientist!!!

Keep up the work!! I HOPE to try and convert to that J4J1 ECu this weekend, but last time I planned anything it dod not happen heh!!

Yeah that's a lot of rewiring. None of the pins will interchange because they are different sizes. Probably ought to eliminate anything you don't have to have. I didn't do that and consequently have a rat's nest.

I sent you the jpg of the spindles, along with a description.

Well I have the ECU harness and dristributor from the 95 cobra that all are matched, so re-wiring is minimal but I still have to split the loom to pull out the power and ignition hook-ups.. I am just going to pull thos out, and put but connectors on to splic into my system for the short term. Once I know it all works I will clean it up.

Spindles look awesome, I will try to get them posted over the weekend..

Guys,

I have been pondering an irs conversion for the 74 roadster I have. I was wandering if anyone out there has had any experience with converting a Mercur xr4ti (Ford Sierra) for use in an MGB. I have found several on car-part.com for sale cheap.

Any relative info would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Mick

Mick,

I think hawk in england uses these components for their IRS. IIRC, they took over the design when the original creator of that IRS systyem passed away.

There was also another guy, also in England, who was featured in an issue of MG World magazine with his White V8 converted GT that featured a bolt in IRS cradle using the same XR4Ti diff and hubs.

Here in the good old US of A, Factory Five Racing builds a promising looking IRS upgrade for their own Cobra kits using the center section and spindles from an early 90s Turbo T-bird.

I can dig up that old magazine article if you like.
