Hey, man if I was not swimming in bills I would be all over that buy it now feature.
Dude

When they say it's just "bolt-in", what exactly is meant? Bolts into where? How be dat? Gearing's a little low at 3.54 IMO though.
Ted

It's my understanding that people design those jag irs assemblies to bolt into the 4 holes that the lever shocks used to use. 3.54 is a good ratio if you have a rover 5 speed. Or, if you have a high power motor and a T5 it would give you a more useable first gear.

Inboard brakes are a pig to change, and that irs is already antiquated. That's why I chose the factory five unit which is based on the Ford Thunderbird. In 40 years, my parts will be 40 years old instead of 80 years old. That has to count for something... ;)

Justin

(It's still an awfully pretty setup though) =)

justin i thought you were going to do an article for the newsletter on your swap, i spoke with the fellow with the rear end on ebay, sounds like a well done job but the weight, i could not bring myself to add another 225 lbs to my car as that is about what the jag rear is above my S10 one i have now. he says its at least 325 lbs total. i am looking forward to the deatils on your swap justin, jim

Jim,
The week I had planned on having my IRS welded in, I had a tooth decide it wanted a root canal and crown, which became a major setback in the plans. My options were a nice ride, or the ability to eat w/o being in pain, so I took the weak mans way out and got the root canal. (Had another one on Tuesday too) =( Along with the EFI setup, I'll write up information on the IRS once I get it in the car, get it finished, and figure out exactly what all is involved. It wouldn't be fair for me to write an article based on "it should work based on my measurements." I WILL report when it's done. =)

Steve,
The factory five roadster is a replica shelby cobra that uses a tubular frame IRS assembly, and the differential, spindles, brakes, and cv joints of a 1989-1996 ford thunderbird. The tubular cage mounts to the back of the differential, which means this setup is more wide then just a regular differential, meaning the gas tank has to go, so does the battery cage. I've mounted both in the trunk so I can get the irs cage under my car. There are some pictures of the assembly in my yahoo briefcase.

Http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bmanetd the folder "mgb v8" and the folder "irs pictures"

"It should work based on my measurements" but we'll find out for sure hopefully sooner then later. ;)

I decided to go with the T-bird setup because it has a top link, unlike the Jag unit. On that one a broken U-joint would be really bad news. I'm even slower than Justin though. Although I ordered materials for the conversion the order didn't get processed until today. Danged no-account vendors, anyway.
