MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Maverick rearend

I drove 250 miles round trip to get my maverick rearend. Got home found out it has 10" brakes with five lugs, I was going to by 4 lug drums since the old drums are not with it. The seller said it was 53" wide rearend, it is really 56 1/2". Now I have to buy new drums $34.00 plus $50.00 to redrill. Axels need redrilled $70.00 a pair. If I get it shortened it another $180.00 this includes axel cut and resplined. So my question is, do I do all that or do I just buy offset rims, I dont know the cost, and have the front drilled to match the 5 lug rear. If so is it that simple to redrill the front rotors to match. Now that I wrote this either way is a wash out. Thank you Denny

I have nothing to add that might help but, I must say $180.00 to have a rearend shortend sounds like a good price. Is that for doing both sides or perhaps just one side with an off-set differential? I hope when I am ready to have mine done I can find someone around here to do for that price. Good luck. Dana

If you add in the axels redrilled, brake drums drilled, it comes to $300.00 and I have to get it to Moser in Indiana. By the way I was the only bidder and got the rearend for $25.00 It doesn' have a tag so I dont know its ratio. Its not posi. So I still have a long way to go. No matter how you look at it unless you can do all the work yourself theres nothing cheap about MGBV8s. I would never ever give mine up. Denny

I just came in from taking the rearend apart. It has 9 pinion teeth and 32 crown that comes out to 3.55 ratio. It look like the axels cannot be cut because right bellow the splines are about 2 1/2" of threads than the axelgets slightly larger. So its either offset wheels or different axels. Also inside the carrier where it holds all the gears a small chunk is missing where the brace which holds the gears. Now I see why some people just by a rearend already done by the time I get done who knows how much it's going to cost.

$180 is a great deal, nothing wrong with 10" brakes.
The axles can be cut, but.... if cut short to fit the MGB it may not be possible, some 8" axles are taper, once cut they are to small to respline.
The other bad news is that the front hubs can not be re-drill to 5 lug. One hole wopuld overlap, sorry for the bad news.
If you need 5 log hubs send me an e-mail.

Bill Guzman

If you can't re-drill the front hubs, any opinions on wheel adapters. Since I'm getting offset rims for the rear I could get the for the front. Denny
dbw morris

Sorry! an adapter would also overlap with a hole/stud. Getg a pice of paper and mark the 5 hole pattern and put it against the 4 hole pattern, you will see what I mean.
Bill Guzman

Is filling in the holes with weld not an option?
Dana Wilson

Filling in the hole and going 4 lug is possible but with 5 lug I would have more option on wheels and tires. And Bill without even trying, I understand what your saying. It just doesn't get any easier. Denny
dbw morris

Yes, welding the holes and re-drilling will work for the wheel studs, now how would you handle the bolts for the rotor? You also have 4 other holes to deal with.
Bill Guzman

Bolt holes for the rotor? I didn't think of that.
