MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - MGB Fender Flares
One of the photos of the MGBs at the V8 meet had fender flares that were very attractive. Where can the flares be purchased? Or do you have to buy replacement flared fiberglass fenders? |
Rod Holderbaum |
Well, you can do both. Check out these sites...or do a search for Sebring kits for MGs. These are the ones I know of. Full fenders and made for roadster or GT...in England http://www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/acatalog/MGOC_Accessories__Bodywork_42.html Full front fenders, add on rear flares http://www.propermg.com/Frames/frameintro1.htm http://www.performancefiberglass.com/mgb.htm All 4 add on flares, don't believe they are as radical as the rest http://hometown.aol.com/jgu1744/Guzmanhomepageindex.html Hope this gets you started. I am looking at the MGOC kit, tryin to find a friend who can pick them up for me while over there. Shipping normal routes can be over $300. Galen |

What did the car look like? |
Jim Blackwood |
Jim, It was a black MGB with chrome bumpers and a black fabric top. If you go to the website with the photos of the V8 summer party, it is the 8th photo (last photo in the second row). The fender flares were not terribly radical which created a very nice appearance. Rod |

The flairs were done by the car owner, a SUPER job, & started out life as parts off a Plymouth Horizon plus many hours of work, I am sure. All were from front fenders, as I remember. |

what's the website for the V8 summer party pics? |

Here's some subtle flares for you: http://www.foresight.cc/Graphics_Content/MG/Front_Yard/MVC-003S.JPG They accommodate 265/50-14 Goodrich TA's Feel free to look around the other photos while you're there. Jim |

Actually, the car with the steel flares is the red MG w/gold rally stripes. Tag read MGB SS. He's still contemplating what engine to swap in. Jim stated all four are from front fenders. That is what I was told as well. I think everyone agreed the work was excellent. I thought the black car from Canada (not Martyn's) had 'glass flares. |

Does anyone have experience fitting the sebring front and rear valance shown on the MGOC link? The front one looks like it is a bolt on replacement for the stock one? I have toyed with the idea of just removing the bumpers entirely on my car.. But then again, I have busted major tail to keep her stock looking, UGHH!! this is driving me crazy.. |
Larry Embrey |
I did too Larry, within limits. Look at the lines of the front end, and unless you know what you're looking at it isn't at all obvious that it is 6" wider than stock. A bit harder to do that in the rear, you know you just do what you can. |
