MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - MGB wire wheel axle to steel wheels
Anyone here done this? I know the WW axle is narrower than the steel wheel version and that hubs can be swapped on. Is there enough clearance between the wheel well and the inside of the tire? I will be running 195/60/14's on an MGC ww axle with steel wheel hubs under my V8. Will I need to get longer lug studs and make a spacer to set the wheels out a little? I also have a panhard rod that will be going in, that should keep the axle located so I'm not worried about lateral movement if its tight. Anyone have experience with this swap? |

Jake, Been there done that! You will have to use a diffrent offset wheel. I used a set of datsun 240-280Z wheels, have 1.5 inchs more offset & works well. I have 3 WW C rears that are used in my cars. |

Glenn, Thanks for the input, I actually want to keep the V8 wheels that I have so no change in the wheel offset is possible, but I can use a spacer. If I don't space the wheel out, will it rub inside? |

Jake, I did exactly what you are planning with my 79 V8. I run 205-60x14's (hard to find) on standard offset Shelby wheels. I did need a 1/4 in. spacer and longer studs to clear the wheel stop bulge on the inner fender, but this setup works great. Good luck with your project. |

Allan, Thank you, thats what I was looking for. Where did you get the longer studs? Do they press right into the MGB hubs? |

I use Salisbury rear axle, wire wheels drive shafts (Jack Knight produce), Quaife ATB differential, I built my own bearing retainer with brackets for hold the callipers, I built my own ally bells for secure the brake discs (Brembo for MGB re-machined), 10mm wheel spacers for give some clearance to the wheels and the callipers, Compomotive HL 6”x15 ET6 wheels, the studs are Ford (europe) type, 12x1.5mm 1” longer pressed into the OE wheel flange. Either the MGC front or rear studs (I can't remember which) are longer and the same diameter and pitch. They can be tapped in or out with a hammer. |
