MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - MGB, 302 & headers

Any of you who've done a ford 302 conversion look at ford factory small block shorty headers? I don't have measurements, but they look like they go straight out from the heads for about 3-4", then turn straight back about to where you'd want them to go through the inner fender. Anyone ever measure how they'd fit?

sorry, but the "shorty" doesn't appear to work as you describe. the headers best route is back over the top of the frame rail and out thru the apron. the shorty dumps onto the frame rail at the rear cowl area. you will need to fab your own headers or contact coyote engineering for a set of their headers. my custom fab set was over $750 not incl labor but are Jet-Hot coated. close to 50+ hours labor in fab job. hedman headers has a good flange kit, but they need to be machined flat once the headers are complete. this is a good idea for all headers.
Good Luck!

The shorties I have sen all end behind the heads, that put them past the firewall if you mount to keep the motor under a stock hood and behind the radiator..

I bought one set of headman truck headers and one set of generic headers. Then cut them up for the bulk pieces and started assembling the big jigsaw puzzle.. I paid $100 total for both sets, plus $350 for a mig welder.. so $450 and lots of my time and I had full length headers...

The easiest way is to just order them from me :))))

$500 sems like a great deal. If I did not already have a system installed I would buy Steve's. Think about it a god flowing pair of shorties for a mustang, LT1, Vette etc are all in the 375-450 range, but those are a MASS produced high volume item. So for Steve to offer these low production units for that price is AWESOME..

Steve, do you have any info on where the hole is needed to them to pass into the wheel well?? What size downpipe do you use. I tried to go that route, but could not get wheels clearance I wanted.. If your setup will give clearance, I might eventualy upgrade from my longtubes..

Larry - How far back is your engine? The back edge of my block and the firewall infront of the heater box are within 1/4" of linning up. I'm running the 1 5/8" header, 225 x 50 x 15 tires and I just rub at full lock the 1 1/2" header gives more clearence. I have not seen any horsepower gains using the 1 5/8 tube
over the 1 1/2, I've tried both, so everything that I've sold has been 1 1/2"

Sounds like my engine is in the same location pretty much. Some valve covers touch the firewall, some don't.. I made the longtubes so that I have a row of 1 1/2" tubes alonr the frame, makes for mondo clearance at full lock, but does get close to the brake lines ont he front side. Once I get the MG back in the garage I will take a look again. Too many projects going on right now!! :-)

Thanks for the update
