MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - MGBGT RV8 Style Bodywork

Has anybody ever put RV8 style body panels on a MGBGT?
Several years ago I saw an add from Maidstone Sports Cars, in Kent, but I could never reach them for a price quote. They had a beutiful R-style GT in the add.
I have a 1974&1/2 GT (rubber bumpers) that needs floors, rockers, sill and quarter repairs. I have already done that kind of work, so changing up to the "new style" doesn't frighten me.
I'm either going to put a Buick 3.8 V6 (same as my 71 GT) or a Ford 302" in it after It has had the rust repaired.
Any input on this will be helpful in making a choice.
Thanks,
Randy

Randy,

I can remember this has been described in the magazine "enjoying MGB" from the MG Owners Club.
I had a look in some of the old magazines but was unable to trace it.

The ad was in MG Enthusiast magazine--I too saw it from a couple of years ago. Can't remember nor do I have the issue.

Maidstone Sports cars is a very active company with a hands on approach. This may not suit owners who are not able to leave their cars for such body alterations. The GT RV8 subject to quite wide coverage was created using genuine RV8 panels except the rear wings that were hand made to the RV8 shape in house on the car. This may make creating a replica remotely difficult. However contect them on www.maidstonesportscars.co.uk

The other option would be to use a glassfibre kit such as the one created and sold by John Hills Ltd who only have phone and fax. FAX (UK code)1789 400708 and Phone (UK code)1789 400449.

The Maidstone car has the feel of OE quality. The Hills kit is good, but it must be remebered it is glass fibre. It certainly gives the look but not quite the feel. I have fitted a 16 valve engine to a late GT fitted with a Hills kit so I have some first hand experience.

Roger,
Thank you for Maidstones web address. They do have a different address than the one in the February 1997 issue of MG Enthusiast Magazine.
I also want to check out John Hills kit. Are ant pictures of your car on the net? Any that you could e-mail to me?
BTW, thanks for all the good advice you so freely administer to all the needy MG owners!
Thanks to all who responded to my request,
Randy

It seems that www.maidstonesportscars.co.uk is a very unreliable/work in progress site..... there's very little info on there at present.

However, I have seen the MGB GT RV8 and it looks rather tasty!!!

On a similar tip, does anyone know anything about completely de-bumpering an original car, in the style of the sebring MGC's or the works BGT featured last year in MG World, or the blue de-bumpered V8 in the same issue??

I am considering the purchase of a GT V8 at present, with this in mind. I'm not too keen on the sebring rear arches though.... the front wings are lovely, but the rear ones are pretty grim (to my taste...)!!!

Does anyone have any idea whether a similar effect can be econmically achieved, without the HUGE rear arches of the Sebring models....???

Cheers,

Guy

Guy,
Victoria British, in Kansas, has the front and rear pieces to eliminate the bumpers. Fibreglas and "some fitting reqd."
I can only think that these pieces originate from England...
John Simmers, who frequently posts on the MGC threads has them on his MGCGT. Good Looker!
You could e-mail him to see where pictures of his car are posted.

I have almost finished fitting a John Hills RV8 kit to a brand new Heritage GT shell. The job is quite difficult and it requires a lot of fettling to get it right. If anyone is interested I can supply more details.

I am converting a '74 BGT to RV8 styling. The body is finished and painted now using original RV8 panels with mods. If you want any details or pictures over the process involved, (B-Tourer also), mail me.
At this stage I'm completing the interior, but still looking for a LHD version of the RV8 dash. The only solution until now seems to make my own. If there are more people interested, I'll make a mould to be able to supply it to others as well.

Guy,

Hills also do the Sebring kits in GRP and the front and rear bumper substitute panels are available separately.

Pieter,

For the dash assembly have you spoken with Mike Satur at all. Links to his site are pobably at the top of one of the MGF BBS's
