MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Miata seat speakers
I have finished installing Miata seats in my V8 converstion and I notice that there are two rectangular holes in the headrest foam when you open the zipper at the top. Mazda wants a fortune for the speakers that fit in there so I was wondering if anyone had come up with a alternative to mazda speakers? Thanks Chris |

I went to Best Buy and bought two pair of 3.5" Rockfordfasgate 2-way full range speakers for less than US$100. These were for Fiero seats. I'm sure that Miata would not differ much. FWIW rick 1974.5 MGB'GT V8 conversion |

Speakers in the headrest are great and are highly recommended. I wonder if stock MG headrest could be modified to accept a set of 3.5-inch speakers. |

Jim....The headrests on stock seats are adjustable up and down...so you would have to allow for that travel. I've never had a headrest apart, be it the D-shaped from 1970 through 1976 or the thinner ones from 1977-80...I would *think* that either would accomodate a thinline speaker set.....rick |

Chris, I used a set of Sony speakers in my Miata seats, I just had to carve out a bit more of the foam in the headrest. I bought mine from Summit, see link below: http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=100&Ntk=PartSearch&Ntt=sny-xs-w3521&x=6&y=13 Cheers Pete 69 MGB 302 V8 |

Go to Chapters and look in the Miata Mag. There are a few people selling good speakers for the seats. Drove a Miata for 13 years and the speakers in the headrest are great. |

I bought Infinity Reference 3002cf 3.5 inch 2 ways. I notice in my new Crutchfield catalog that they are on sale for $47.99 pair. I really like the sound, although, because of the size there is not much bass. |

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. Just to finish off the thread I bought a pair of Alpine 2way speakers, 4" Dia 2 3/4" depth. Dug out the foam in the headrest but they stuck out because of the metal frame structure in the center. So I pulled the seats and removed the offending piece of metal with the cutoff saw. The headrest still has plenty of stiffness due to the metal hoop the that goes over the top. The new speakers are suspended by the stiff foam and it sounds great! Thanks again, Chris |
