MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - mixing LRP with unleaded

My V8 roadster (compression ratio 9:35)currently runs fine on normal unleaded petrol. I intend to tour Cornwall next week and have 1/2 a tank of unleaded but am completely unable to obtain any unleaded anywhere in the North West. If I top up with LRP will it mix OK with the unleaded, can I expect to see any difference (will the engine run hotter for example)and can anyone provide me with information regarding availability of LRP south of Birmingham.
Charles Bryan

as long as you drive gently you should see no difference. LRP has suffered from questionable quality in the past so I would not expect to use it for normal (high) perfromance. A mix of LRP and unleaded will be better than pure LRP.
Plenty of fuel in the thames valley but I understand the southwest is pretty much out of everything. Esso stations are less affected than others, and deliveries have resumed last night.

Info this morning was that the supply depot for the Midlands (near Tamworth) was still not making any deliveries - the Police had been there last night but left.

Charles,

I changed from LRP to Unleaded a few months ago and used a mixed tank without any problems. I filled up with LRP today, so if I break down I will let you know.

Being in the USA I know this doesn't affect me, but what exactly is LRP? Is it a leaded gasoline?

Years ago when we still had leaded regular, I used to mix it 50/50 with super unleaded in the tank of my high performance Camaro. It liked it. In fact, Hot Rod Magazine stated that this combination resulted in a slight improvement in octane.

LRP = Lead Replacement Petrol.

No lead just erzatz.

Carl - LRP is equal in octane to the old 4-star leaded and the highest grade of Unleaded (Super). It contains additive similar to those that can be bought over the counter and added to straight unleaded, but reputedly at about half the concentration and hence the protection is inadequate for sustained high-speed/heavy-duty use.

4-star leaded is still available at certain independant retailers.

With the recent difficulties I have had to revert to LRP for the Metro for the daily work grind. It ran cr'p on this before and within half a mile it was running cr'p again!!! This is when I don't appreciate 36 to 38 to the gallon as it takes too long to use the damn stuff!
