MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - More breakage

Just as things are going well...I suppose that's the way it always is. Pulled in the driveway and stopped to get the mail, put it in gear and letting out the clutch, wham! no power. Looked underneath to see transmission fluid running out, a rather bad sign. So after some rummaging about I thought maybe another gear might still be usable, as was the case and I was able to make it to the workshop with only a bit of clutch smoke adding to the existing turmoil. To be fair about it, my driveway is steep, long, and rather grippy concrete and I'd been leaving black tire marks on it, much to the chagrin of my wife and delight of my 10 yr. old son Matthew. The back tires are getting old and are in need of replacement but still have too much tread you see, and I was wearing them down a bit in anticipation of their immenent replacement. One of these days I'll have to install the g-tech and get some idea of how much horsepower that blown 215 actually makes, but it's a bunch and is loads of fun to play with, the only problem seems to be the durability of the driveline. I think in a way Jake Volkers tried to tell me something about that. So three years back it was the Dragon taking out the stock axle, and now the transmission. I think I'm going to have to do some upgrades again. That Warner T-50 just isn't strong enough for a 300hp engine in an MGB. Next step, start looking for the correct configuration of T-5 to replace it with. Soon as I get the chance to jack up the car I will take a measurement of the distance from the bellhousing to the shifter and see how close to that I can get. then look at gear ratios. Maybe I'll get lucky enough to find something close enough to be an easy fit.

Although not as much fun!

No, not as much fun. I can easily hit second on the way up the driveway (or could), and if the truck wasn't sitting at the top and I knew nobody was going to be in the way I could easily go air-borne since there's a turn to get to the garage. But that's pretty extreme and of course nobody I know would do something like that.

OH well ,Jim like I say all the time if ya aint breakin something , ya aint havin fun , but 'REALLY' 2nd gear sideways smashes while getting airborn ? in your driveway ? Thats pretty good for a guy your age , makes me wonder what a ride with you was like in your teen years ?
Denny1

Not your average ride, to be sure. This MGB was the direct consequence of the way I drove, and there really were no non-essentials on it. I've toned it down a bit, think- Sammy Hagar, I can't drive 55. A certain video clip taken on the dragon by Pete Smith could be taken as rather incriminating, but it's nothing compared to the old days.
