MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - More on speedos (sorry!)
Hi All, I know I am flogging this topic to death but... Was the Manual SD1 series 1 speedo the same for all cars in the range - 2000 up to 3500? I can only find the single type listed by Rimmer bros. Also (OT) if my indicator tell tales both flash weakly when I indicate (the external lights are all fine now) but then rectify when I bang the steering column- upwards (72 car, metal dash). Does that mean bad earthing from the dash to the car body. Thanks, Liam. |

My stock MG speedo is acurate using the LT77 gear box and a 3.07:1 rear end. The cables even work. Why would you want to mess with the SD1 speedo. The MG unit works fine. |

Hi M, Mine says 22 when I know I'm doing 30. It must be the 3.3:1 back end I am using. I an now thinking about finding a closer speedo, and pasting a scan of the dial across. Liam |

I had the cable end changed on my LT77 speedo cable so I could mate it to a GM Hall Effect Sensor. I attached that to a VDO electronic speedo, calibrated it on a known mile, and was up and running in no time. Food for thought... |

MGC speedo should work better. MGC had 3.31:1 I think. |

Yes, it's a C back axle, but the speedo is fixed to the gearbox. The thing is, I know of two places that can recallibrate for me, but the thought of anyone seeing me push the car along for 6 revolutions of the wheel while I count the speedo cable turns and thinking my pride and joy has broken down is too much to bear. Regards, Liam |
