MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Recommend a converter in the DC area?
I am looking for recommendations for V8 converters in the Washington DC area. I have about $20K to put into the project. I would like to build a rather fairly muscular but stock-bodied car with a Rover V8. I am a pretty good shadetree mechanic, but I do not have the time, the space or the tools to do this myself. I'm up in the air as to whether to build a roadster or a GT, too. Clearly roadsters may hold their value better, but that's not really an issue for me as I will hang onto the car for several years. Perhaps a GT with a sunroof? I am looking for a solid car that isn't too exotic; I don't want lots of trick parts, and I would like to keep it fairly British -- i.e. not an american muscle car stuffed into a B! I suppose carbureted will be fine. Any recommendations as to who might undertake this sort of work, please advise. |

Glen Towery would probably be the only one near you. I think he's in New Jersey. You can find his number here: http://www.teamsanctuary.com/mgbv8.htm Under towery foreign cars. |

New Jersey? Glenn would have a fit. Deleware, just across the bay on I-95 or 301 I think. mgv8glen@bellatlantic.net |

Glen Towery is the resident authority on the East coast. I bought parts for my original conversion from Glen about 15 years ago. He does it better than ever now. I have some parts on order with him for the latest incarnation of my B. Glen even offers to bring it to you with a one day conversion in your driveway! Towery Automotive Delaware Rt 42 Cheswold, DE 302-734-1243 Just north of Dover, De. , probably 1 1/2 to 2 hrs up Rt301 from DC. Glen is usually at British Car day in Bowie. He knows the conversion inside out, has the parts, probably at it longer than anyone in the US. He is definitely worth a call. |

Dale- Get in touch with me. I have a V8 roadster & a Gt V8 w/ sunroof. You can get a ride or 2 to help make up your mind. Weekends are spent in Newington, Va, pretty close to you. Glenn is the only one I know of on the East Coast doing conversions as a regular part of a buisness, but there is a shop in Baltimore capable of doing conversions. Jim Stuart p.s. Offer is open to anyone else interested in doing a conversion |
