MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - rotor and hub conversion

Did anyone have any luck with the using a "Gm" or other
brand of rotor and caliper to a stock "B" hub?

vince story

Vince,
I used the hubs and vented rotors from a Porsche 944 or 911. Also used the rims from Porsche as the bolt pattern is 5-bolt on 130mm circle. Wheels are 15x7 and tires are Bridgastone 215/60/15. This gives superb roadholding and braking. Used Wilwood 4-pots calipers.
No interference from tires and fenders! The Porsche hubs fit right on to the MGB axle!

Vince, Werner did a very nice job on those Porsche rotors, check out his Web V8WORM's 's Home Page
I have also heard of Chev rotors, I will be experimenting on several other options. If you want more brake consider the stock rotor with larger calipers, heavier rotors are unsprung weight that affects handling. There is nothing wrong with the solid rotors for normal driving. for high spirited driving then go to vented rotors and big calipers like Werner did. Or cool the stock rotors with the proper vents. It all depends how much $$$ you want to spend.

Porsche rotors make sense for V8 power.

Don't know what sort of access you would have over there but I have used the Peugeot 505 Turbo vented disc (rotor) which has very similar base dimension to the standard MG. Not least of which is the same overall diameter which means I can live with my original knock on 14" Minilite style alloy wheels. The calipers I am using are AP 4 pots which are essentially the same as the RV8, just 15 years older!

To fit the Peugeot disc involved redrilling the four bolt holes for the mounting bolts to the hub, and using late Triumph GT6 caliper bolts to mount the calipers.

Roger, can these Peugeot vented disks be used with standard 'B calipers?
Derek Nicholson

No Derek. You need Austin Pricess Calipers!

Roger,
Have you looked at the 1984/85 Nissan 300ZX non-turbo rotors? At W22mm x D274mm x H35mm, it appears that they would fit MGB hubs without redrilling, thereby allowing the use of unmodified rotors if replacement is required. A spacer of around 10mm may be needed. Austin Princess calipers are not available on the U.S. west coast, so Mazda 1986/92 turbo RX7 4 pot alloy calipers might be a good choice to get back the weight gain of the vented rotors.

Thanks guys for all your input. Werner, did you change
your rear end to match your new 5 lug front? If not,
what mods did you make ?

Question for George B. Very interested that you mention RX7 Turbo calipers, what is the bolt measurement? if greater than the B how would you bolt on?
Thanks

Vince,
Up to now I am still running on the stock MGB rear end but I am experimenting with a Volvo rear end. I am momentarily out of town for work but will continue with this in June. Will keep everybody informed who is interested!
Werner
PS.: Converting to Porsche hubs and rotors and rims allows you to run FAT tyres(215/60/15) upfront without interference with the fenders!

Mike,
I am still researching the RX7 calipers, haven't gotten hold of any yet. They will most likely require adapters such as Werner used on his Wilwood calipers.

I picked up a set of adapters to bolt on 300ZX rotors to MGB hubs, while I was in Australia. The rotors bolted on just like they were made for it. A volvo 4pot will bolt on with just making the mounting holes bigger, according to the shop I got them from. I won't know for sure until I get time to find a pair. I'm going to find out what it will cost to have the adapters made, since shipping to here would cost a bunch.

The Volvos will bolt to the MG once enlarge. Volvos calipers come in different flavors. Solid disc calipers and vented and vented come in different thicknbess. they also have dual lines. One for each side of the caliper, if you can get the manifold for the front lines.

Hey werner what year were all the parts that you got off the porsche?
