MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Rover Oil Pan Drain Washer

Hi

My 3.5 Rover oil pan drain washer is leaking.

I was wondering if anyone knew the size of washer so I can buy a new one before I change the oil?

Thanks

I suggest going to the Rover dealership (i.e. LandRover) and get a replacement from the parts counter. One of the nice things about using the Buick or Landrover V8 is this ability. It is a soft copper washer.

Thanks Richard

Next time I am in Vancouver I will do that.

I was hoping someone would know the size and I could match it in the small town I live in.
I guess next time I change the oil I could always measure the washer, install the new filter and oil then go buy a new washer and then drain the oil again, install the new washer and reuse the oil by filtering it through a filter.

Thanks

I know what you are going though! I just went to the garage to check out the size I just installed but I discarded the old on already. I purchased mine from a local parts store. NAPA. I went in with my drain plug in hand a they found a cooper washer to fit. My drain plug is rather large and I don't know the source. If it is like the rest of the engine change out I have to just hunt and find. My V8 was installed by a half ass guy. I still am sorting it out after four years!

I have a couple of sumps and I do not think the drain plugs are all the same size.

cheers

Just did this, I got a copper washer from the local hardware store. I believe it was .625" ID on the washer. No more leaks.
Jake

Thanks Guys and thanks very much for the actual size Jake.

Put a bit of silicon gasket on just before you do it up.
I just wipe off any excess oil with a rag and put a smear of silcon around the top edge of the bolt. Never leaks a drop and is not hard to get undone.
I used silicon ultra grey last time cause that was what I happen to have.

Or you could use teflon plumbing tape on the thread if you don't like silicon.

It would be my luck that I'd get some of the tape in the sump and plug an oil galley.
