MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Rust in peace.
Can anyone recomend a decent rust killing product, automotive or otherwise...I have some bodywork to take care of and i only want to have to do the once... Cheers John. |

Sand blastong, new steel panels, a heritage body in that order are the best rust killers. Short of that POR 15 seams to work reasonably well. |

That is--"Sand blasting" I hate not having spell checker--I think I need finger checker also. |

Trustan 25 (if you can still get it) seems to do the trick as long as the preparation is good. |

Phosphoric acid is the best. Here in the states it is called OSPHO. |

Does anyone use Finnigan's Waxoyl? I understand it is a yearly treatement that can be sprayed in by the do it yourselfer. Appearently it stays gooey so it won't crack and flake off. |

I'll second mick. Ospho is great |

Waxoyl - yes, it does exactly that. Also 'Finnegans Underbody Sealant with added Waxoyl' for arches and similar. One point to watch is where the front and rear wings/fenders cover the outer sill. The gap between the two is so small that you cannot easily spray between them, which means those repaired panels can be the first to rot through again. I inject clean engine oil then work a piece of card in the gap to try and distribute it. |

I have always been a great fan of Waxoil ... but it contains silicone and this has caused major paint shop problems for me - see the archives for details. NJSS |

The products which have regularly won the tests conducted by 'Practical Classics' magazine here in the UK are made by Dinitrol. A variety of treatments are available for either clean steel, rusty, dirty steel etc. It's easy to spray, being much thinner than Waxoyle, and this means it has a much better capillary action to creep into panel seams and folded joints. It's widely on sale in the small adverts in the back of 'Practical Classics'. |
