MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - RV8 manifold fitting

I'm in the process of moving from huggers to RV8 style manifolds. Browsing through the archives there's been a lot of discussion on the fitment of the differing versions of RV8 manifold offered. In the UK I think there are principally 3 types (please correct if necessary): MGB Hive, Clive Wheatley and MG Owners Club.

MGB Hive tell me that they can't be fitted without removing the engine. Has anyone managed to fit either Clive's or the Owners Club with the engine in place?

Thanks, David.

I have fitted Clive Wheatley's Set with engine installed. In fact I was very impressed with build quality etc.

I am also about to put RV8 manifolds on to my 3.9 but am having trouble locating the reinforcing rings for the inner wings. CW and BH haven't got any neither have Heritage. Can anybody come up with another UK supplier that might help? Thanks

Brown and Gammons might have them, Ive seen them there before.

David,

I installed Clive's headers on my car with the engine in place. I made up my own reinforcing rings that fit both sides of the holes and then held in place by "socket-head" bolts.

I can send pictures if you contact me off-site. Build-quality of the headers is first class.

Cheers

David,

I'm using same design as Clive's and no fitment problems. Not using any reinforcing rings as keeping holes as small as possible, but wanted to check for any movement before finalising.

An alternative is Frontline's version which is 4-2-1 with heart shaped holes, no idea of cost.

Hi David,

Also using CW RV8 manifolds. They fit perfectly. For the reinforcing of the holes, I welded 3/16 rod around the opening. Rock solid.

Jake,

Thanks for the B&G suggestion - I brought their last one!

I've fitted clives and they're good quality
With the engine in place, you might need to remove the brake master if you have the later vacuume assisted brakes.
I reinfored the holes I cut by turning down the last 5mm of the edge, "belling" the edge. Looks good, very strong.
