MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Shortening the TR7 shift tower
I would like to shorten the shift tower on my TR7 trans for a better line up. Any suggestions on the best way to proceed? Kelly |

those shift extensions came in a few lengths and you can find shorter ones if you look around for them. i saw a web page where the guy was using a rover 3.5 and tranny and bought a new shift extension but when it arrived it was a short style, so i know theyre out there. |

Glen Towery used to sell cut and rewelded shift extensions but I just cut my shift lever in two and wleded a part in it to make a zig zag forword enough to put the lever where I wanted it. I think the RV8 had a special gear lever bent with just such a zig zag to move the lever forwards without having to modify the trans castings. If I am wrong someone in the UK is sure to correct me but it worked for me and I did not have to weld aluminum in the extension casting. Dick Porter |

Thanks for the comments. I was thinking of removing about 1.25 inches from the middle of the housing and shortening the rod to match. Zig zaging the shift lever would be easier. Thanks, Kelly |

I hane been cutting the shifter tower 1..25 in. to were I can get the A/C goodies in after I back up the motor. No big deal. I have one in stock if you need one |

I shortened the shift tower yesterday and it turned out well. I removed 1.25 inches from the center of the tower and shortened the rod the same length. It works very well. Thanks for the input. Kelly |
