MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Side Mirror Suggestions
Does anyone have a suggestions on after-market mirrors that look particularly good or appropriate for the B? I would like to go away from the original flag style and the bullet or raydot style; although, I do like the classic style. For a more modern look, I like the oval shape on the new Minis, but they look way to big for the B. Just interested in what you've done and any suggested suppliers. Any particulars on mounting would be appreciated too. Thanks! John |

Would suggest that whatever shape you chose, that you put a plate inside the door to bolt through, as this strengthens this area considerably and helps stop the dreaded panel split which can occur under the rear of the quarterlight. Its usually caused by badly fitted quarterlights pressing on the panel at this point. Mike |

I had my welder put a metal bar about 1/4" thick and roughly 1" x 2" inside the door right at the edge where the crack would start. No more crack of doom in my car! Anyway, I went to my local auto parts store and found some rectangular black "eurospec" mirrors. Cheap in quality, but effective, and easy to replace. Instead of using their self tapping screws, I got some machine screws and drilled the holes, and put some lock washers and nuts on the inside. Low cost yet effective. Gotta love that! Justin |

I brazed a 3/16 wire into the bend at the top of the door. Should cure the crack. For mirrors I like the ones that came on my '71, which has the spring loaded arm. At night it is a simple matter to swing the mirror down for bright lights behind, and when swung back up it locks back into it's original position. Repro units are available through Moss, but check the quality of the mirror itself closely. The one I bought was warped. Jim |

I used the bullet-shaped mirrors off of a late '70's Pontiac Grand Prix/Buick Cutlass. Cable remote, painted body colour. Got them at a local salvage yard. rick ingram 1974.5 MGB/GT V8 conversion |

Jake- What is the origin of Evan's mirrors? |

On my '71 I used the later MGB mirrors (which came with flat black paint), but I painted them British Racing Green to match the rest of the car. |

Hey Jim The mirrors on my car were intended for a Seadoo. I bought them at a local auto parts store in Shelby. Tomorrow I will get the part number and brand for you. They cost $25 each and come in either White or black and both are pintable. I modified the stem buy grinding it to a 45 degree angle to fit to the door. They have convex mirrors. Part numbers to Come..... www.rebornco.com |

Evan- Is that a V8 Seadoo? You must have some interesting auto parts stores where you live. Around here, the only mirrors in the parts houses are for trucks & RV's. Thanks for the info. Jim |
