MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - starting problems -fuel/carb?

setup: carb'd buick..not run for two years. changed all fluids, flushed/lubed and cleaned tank. wires/fuses checked. will run only when 'starting spray' shot into carb. when it 'dries', motor stops. fuel is getting to carb, does appear darker than it should be (still rust problem?) but to action without spray.
carb does appear to be most likely suspect -any other areas I should check?
thanks!

What carbs? On SUs you can blow in the float chamber overflow and check fuel is coming up the jet. Choke operating? Fresh fuel?
Paul Hunt

I'll assume that a Buick doesn't have SUs and that you should see fuel spraying from the accellerator jets when the throttle is opened. If no spray, then it could be that the fuel isn't filling the float chamber(s) or that the seals on the accellerator pump are dried out or otherwise inoperative. Pull the top from the float chambers and check for debris.

A further note: use fresh fuel only, two year old fuel may not start the engine and will smell really bad if it does.

I think George is on to it (the problem). Seems no fuel into carb. Does get up to with nice stream of fuel. Yep on the old gas as well.
Will attempt to pull top and check for trash. That and re-clean tank, change filter and top off fresh.
Thanks!

CM . . . your carb may have a sintered bronze inlet filter where the fuel line connects to the carb. If so, it's probably clogged.

After 'messing' with the carb for a day or so and still having the problem.. a trip to the local auto yards solved all.
$35 later and it fired right up!
Now I think the cooling system needs another flush or three. Oh well, one situation at a time.
Thanks to all!
