Thanks Michel, but I am not on any of the lists.
I have not found any numbers ending B.
My comp ratio is 8.5 which is also not on these lists!!

The following link does list your engine.

I am not sure what the 'B' signifies.

What information are you after?

I was just reading through my Rover manual. And perhaps this will explain the ‘B’ after your engine number

“Pistons are available in graded standard size’s and in ungraded over size’s of 0.25 mm (0.010) and 0.50mm (0.020). Standard pistons are graded in diameter and the grade letter is stamped on the crown of the piston and on the cylinder block.

“Z” cylinder bore diameter nominal to +0.0075 mm (0.0003 in)
‘A’ 0.0075 mm (0.0003 in) to 0.015 mm (0.0006 in) above nominal
‘B’ 0.0125 mm (0.0006 in) to 0.0225 mm (0.0009 in) above nominal
‘C’ 0.0225 mm (0.0009 in) to 0.03 mm (0.0012 in) above nominal
‘D’ 0.03 mm (0.0012 in) to 0.0375 mm (0.0015 in) above nominal
‘S’ 0.081 mm (0.0032 in) to 0.088 mm (0.0035 in) above nominal

Thanks Bruce.
I am sure you are right, as my pistons do have a B stamped on them.
My only remaining queery is why 8.5:1 comp ratio is not listed.
I have contacted British Heritage and a kindly gent is looking into this.
Thanks again.

Car number GHN5US448712 G I think should have electronic ignition (1978 MGB) The engine seems to be 18V884. Problem is it seems to have a 45D4 distributor instead of 45E4.

I am thinking this is mix and match parts? I am going to go to electronic ignition but don't know what to buy.

Dave.
For the first few months of production the Range Rover with the 3.5 litre engine had a compression ratio of 8.5:1 giving 135 bhp at 4750 RPM. This was later changes to 9.35 compression ratio.
