MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - T-5 electricals??
Possibly a stupid question, but here goes........ I have just acquired my World Class T-5 out oy a 1988 Firebird and on the "drivers side" of the tranny there are two things I have no idea what they are: There is a "big round thing" sticking out of the drivers side below where the shifter is?? There is what looks like an electrical connection on the drivers side near the bellhousing?? Any ideas Regards Tony |

One will most likely be for the reverse lights, the other I can't even guess. |

One is the back up switch and the other is the electrical sending unit for the speedometer. The electrical unit can be replaced if you wanted to use the MGB cable to drive the speedo. If you require more info on this let me know.. Bruce |

Thanks,, it's obvious now. Regards Tony |

Tony, Bruce is correct. The forward unit is the back up switch and the tail unit is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). You can find the parts to convert this to a speedometer drive gearbox out of an earlier T5 box from an S10 or Camaro (Not sure about Mustang 'boxes)... I'm sure someone out there probably has a whole list of gear ratios that can be purchased for these, but I dont have that info, just know there are a number of gears availible for different GM rear ends and such. |
