MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - T5 for my MGB?

Can anyone tell me where I can find a company that could fit a T5 box to my MGB Rover V8 please?

On this side of the water, you could source a bell housing for a 1961-63 Buick or Olds 215 V8 4-speed or combo 3/4 speed.

This bell housing is a bolt up to all the Rover V8's based upon the Buick 215 (3.5, 3.9, 4.0, 4.2, 4.6)and the T-5 will bolt to the other end. You will need a pilot bush custom made, no big deal.

The bell housing appears from time to time on E-bay, or can be purchased from Glenn Towery, D & D Fabrications, The MG Guys, and others in the U.S.

D & D can supply the pilot bush.

Depending upon your engine, you may need a 3/8" spacer or have the input shaft shortened 3/8".

Some of the TVRs with Rover based V8s used the T5 box. So if you get your box from a TVR breaker it should come with the correct bell housing, spigot etc.

I read somewhere that the tail housing on the TVR version of the T5 puts the gear stick in a different place. Changing this for the Ford Cosworth tail casting is surposed to fix that.

So in theory, I could unbolt my bellhousing and V8 Camaro T5 from my 215 buick block, and bolt it straight to a 4.6 Rover block without any adapter plates or changes to the input shaft?

Obviously the clutch would have to be changed, but the bell housing and input shaft would match up to the Rover?

The input shaft will be approximately 3/8" too long and when all is bolted up, the crank will be locked up by the thrust washers, but yes, it will bolt up, and with the earlier blocks the spacer is not required.

You will need a spacer between the block and bell, or between the bell and T-5, or shorten the transmission input shaft.

Interesting...

Anthony,

There is one other option if the 4.6 crank is out of the engine...shorten the back of the crank.

So do you mean machine the mounting flange for the flywheel back?, or drill the hole for the pilot bushing deeper?
