MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - T5 to MG rear end driveshaft

Those of you who use the stock rear end with the T5, where did you get your driveshaft made up, and what can I expect to pay to have one built? I have only the Ford version T5 output yoke. No MG driveshaft or u-joints of any kind. Thoughts.. comments?

Scott,
Dan Legrou at D&D makes a complete drop in shaft made from new materials and should have one for the Ford T-5 and stock rear sitting on the shelf. Visit his website for prices or give him a call.

Dan has made two different shafts for me over the years for two different applications and they have performed flawlessly.

scott, contact me if you are unable to purchase a complete conversion shaft. i have made one from Spicer parts and used the T-5 yoke and the new Spicer end in a new tube at the trans. the other end; at the R/E was a modified MGB u-joint assembly. i obtained a thick walled tube (.120) and the Spicer parts fit right in, the MGB yoke had to be turned down a few 1/1000 ths. since the MGB tube is a thin wall. this tube (2" OD) and parts can be sourced from a driveshaft shop. my overall length was 29 1/8", but this will vary for each person's installation.

How WIERD!! I JUST went thru my desk the other day and found my DL reciepts!!! Your local Driveline shop should be able to do this for you no problem.

Here are the part numbers that are used in mine. I started with a stock Mustang DS, but the tube was too big and fouled the parking brake (found out after creation..), so I had a new tube done up for it, 2.5".

So I have different reciepts with 2 different Weld yokes and don't know whether they went on the DS.. The flange yoke uses a 12-20 UJ (for ranger size) which is the biggest possible in a flange to mate to the MG rear end.
I will list the parts as I know them from rear axle forward to trans.. The UJ's I can;t tell which is which size wise.. so list them both 1st.. I think the top one if the 12-20 as it has a special greasing port on it.. Prices are list price, not what I paid.. My total was $195 originally and $87 to retube.

UJ = 5-443X ($32.17)
UJ = 153X ($16.25)
FLANGE YOKE = Spicer#2-2-899 ($83.94)
Weld yoke = Spicer#2-28-1947 (originally on rear with above flange yoke)($34.88)
Weld yoke = Spicer#2-28-277U (maybe new front for new DS tube..)($29.89)

I will be getting this up on my parts listing of the website ASAP.

OK I did a touch of research on the UJ's

The 5-153x is a 13-10 UJ and is what I used up front.

the 5-443X is a 12-10 (Ford ranger size) and what matches the special flange thatmates to the MGB Rear end.

Both are Spicer numbers which should cross reference to other companies if needed.

Heres the info on my driveline. All new spicer parts.

You got a great deal on that MG compatible Yoke!! I think I ended up paying about the same amount after a "business discount" by using a corporate account..

Thanks, Jake, very nice work!

Thanks a lot guys. Excellent information as always. I have enough information here to have a local shop build me a driveshaft with no problem. When I build my 9" Ford some day, I'll just have a new flange to deal with on the back end!
