MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Track Time For The 2004 Show?

Is there anyone interrested in track time at Gratten road course on Thursday before the 2004 V-8 show??? The costs will be considerable higher due to track demand, about $175.00 for the day, that would be unlimited 20 minute sessions. We would need at least 30 cars just to break even and everyone would have to prepay by mid-October. ?????????
Steve Carrick

Steve,

Count me in.

Pete

Well Thats two of us, only need 28 more!!!
I have talked with the Michigan Cobra Club and they are VERY interrested in joining us for the show.
Steve Carrick

Excellent !

Should be interesting how we compare against them !

Pete Mantell

Steve,
Three of us now! In light of the fact that the $175 will purchase a great and life long memory, I think it is cheap. (I spent well into six figures married to a woman and now try and forget everything about it!) Besides, I have started recently to think I am a pretty fair driver. Another day at the Grattan track will be just what I need to be humbled again. (Was kinda fun though doing loops through the grass.)
When can we start to make reservations at the Excel?
Best Regards,
Kurt

Steve,

You know I'm in!

Okay, so it's more than last year, but compared to what 4 laps at Sebring cost us this is a bargain. Just to nitpick, I think there is a finite limit on the number of 20 minute sessions that can be squeezed into daylight hours. :) Actually, I think 4 or 5 is about all my body & car can take. Can't wait!
Carl

It's time to come out and play. Count me in. Sebring was fun...Gratten has to be comparable! Do you have anything on safety requirements of the track yet?

rick

rick ingram

The requirements are the same as last year - a current SCCA approved helmet. No passing in the corners.
Steve Carrick

OK, I'm in. Mid October huh? Why so soon?
I don't expect to have the new rear suspension in by summer (when are we doing this again?) but I'll at least have the head gaskets replaced. Just make sure Mike brings along a few extra band-aids, as it sounds like playing in the weeds is almost a prerequisite ;-)

Is there a site where I can find out more about this event? Specific dates maybe? Sounds like a good place to get the inside scoop on a conversion. In the meantime, would y'all be adverse to an unconverted B joining the fun?

Pete in Canada! (And any others interested!)

Please come and join the fun with us! My V8 is not on the road (yet), but I've attended the V8 meets since 1999 with my MGC. Carl Floyd brought his 4 banger MGB for several years before he completed his V8 conversion.

The meet will be held this in year in Grand Rapids, Michigan in conjunction with the University Motors Summer Party Reunion August 12-15, 2004. Track day for the V8s will be on Thursday the 12th. I anticipate a good turnout this year for both events! We had near 40 British V8s and enthusiasts in Tennessee in May 2003. There is always good info available, the chance to ride (or perhaps even drive) a conversion, tech sessions, parts vendors, et cetera.

I would also suggest that you take a look at:
http://www.britishv8.org/linkhome.htm

And join the V8 register. Back issues are available from Dan Masters. It is well worth the money!

Hope to see you in Grand Rapids! The V8 meet for 2005 will be held in Terre Haute, Indiana with drag racing and POSSIBLY track time at Putnam Park.

Actually, we had 54 registrants. Most, but not all, drove a V8 powered British sports car.
Dan Masters

Count me in! Can't wait to get back to turn 3.I hope they got the grass put back in place. That corner proved to be a little tricky!Everyone should try it at least once.
Mikke Moor

What are the thoughts about having the Michigan Cobra Club join the V-8 show? They are VERY interested. They have about eighty cars, with two being originals!
Steve Carrick

No problem with the Cobras, as long as they know the proper track etiquette when being passed.

Kurt Schley

Steve,

I'm opposed to it. I'm afraid I'd wet my pants being around that many Cobras at one time!

Actually, I think it'd be a great idea! As far as I'm concerned, the wider the range of cars at our events, the better. Regardless of what type of car we are individually interested in, we can all learn from and be inspired by what others are doing.

Dan, As your "personal pharmacist", I will bring up some extra Depends for you that weekend!

Steve,

Great idea, should offset the cost greatly.

I guess 3 consecutive years of missed V8 meets will end for me next year in Michigan.I heard that this Steve Carrick guy has some hot Ford that needs a little competition on the straight sections.I was going to build a good motor over the winter but my oil pump decided to lock up for no apparent reason after 7 faithful seasons so now I'm scrambling to do a motor AND the T5 before the British Invasion in 2 weeks.Got my crank and rods today and damn I think they sent the wrong parts.I'm no expert but the stroke appears to be a little too long....
Dale

Absolutely YES......wouldn't miss it for anything......and possibly bringing 2 V8s to the show since my son will be 17 years old and driving!!!
Martyn Harvey

So Far I only have ten people interested, and have not recieved any money for the track time. We need more people !

Steve,
Check will be in the mail tommorrow. Sue and I just returned from a week in Canada, spent a couple of great days with Martyn Harvey and visited 22 wineries. Almost forgot what beer tasted like.
KS
Kurt Schley

I have recieved one check, so far. If we are going to have track time we have to get our deposit in before one of the big three takes the time slot.

Hotel info will be posted this week

Steve-sent you an email today but Demon Mailer (I hate that guy) sent it back to me.Seems I have attained spam status??!!I've been called some names before but this might be a new low!Anyway,I was writing to say my check is in the mail. Now I have to save up so I can rent that driver from Tennesee so he can put some respectable hot laps on my car....
Dale

Steve,
How do things look? Is there a reasonable chance of pulling this off, or is it more likely you will be sending money back at this point? I can send you a check or electronic payment but are we still trying to do this?

Jim
Jim Blackwood

Jim

So far I have received money from two people. I cannot front the money for track time. This is also a high risk situation for me, as far as liability goes.

Steve
Steve Carrick

Right, but that's not what I asked, Steve. You said you needed 30 registrations by mid Oct. for it to fly. Has that changed?
