MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Twin Exhaust system

Can any one let me know what modifications if any i will need to do to fit a twin exhaust system? I have seen things mentioned in the past about moving the fuel tank, will the temperature of the exhaust be a problem etc....

Thanks in advance

What engine are you using?

For V6, it makes no sense to go with dual exhaust as there is no significant power difference.

Hey, Rover guys - anyone got a comparison of true dual exhaust on a BOP Rover engine, vs. a single large bore (2.75" or more) system?

Bill
It is for a rover V8 engine conversion.

Thanks

Graham:
I have a custom dual exhaust on my Rover v8 but did not move the tank. It comes from blockhugger headers to an "X" pipe, into two glasspack mufflers, then under the rear axle and into a homemade resonator with two outlets, exiting in the original position of the B's single pipe. Email if you would like 8-10 pics.

Well.....with the V6 it does make a difference in fact it makes a difference in any V or inline engine, such as the MGC, Jag and others, specially in the 3.4 V6. A single exhuast in the 2.8 with larger tubing out of the Y pipe can produce lots of torque difference and yes hp too.Same with the dual exhaust in 2.8. The key is in selection of tubing size and type of muffler/s

A V8 can gain torque in the mid range with a well develop single exhaust. It all depends on tubing size and muffler type/s and specific use of the vehicle.
Camero Z28 LS1 has a well design single exhaust and develops lots of torque and hp.

Good topic for a tech session.

Just for your info.

Hi all,

I too am thinking of fitting/ making a twin system for my rover v8 B. got a 'Maniflow' system at present which sounds good but the twin systems sound so much better! Has anyone got some pictures we can look at??

Graham I centered the fuel tank and had the pipes run out on each side. I have 2 flowmaster mufflers and RV8 type headers. The sound is much better with twin pipes and I have been driving the car for 2 years without any problems.

GLG- To answer your query: Yes, you have to center the tank. I did my dual setup when I had the tank out for clever swirlpot fitting. I'd recommend going OVER the rear axle with the pipes and definitely implanting a crossover just after the collectors. I used a metal hole saw and metal contour pliers to roll up the edges of the half circle soas to exactly reproduce the exit cut on the other side. Looks very trick and "stock". Cheers Vem

if you are in the UK doesn't the MGOC sell a stainless steel dual system for a factory V8 that does not require moving the fuel tank?

sorry, hit the enter too soon, i also had a true dual system similar to what phil did on his car only i used rv8 headers, twin pipes, crossover under the drivers seat, up and over the rear axel and twin glass packs in the stock muffler position. jm

The MGOC system is very nice but very expensive. It actually needs an entirely different shaped tank and will not work with the standard tank. Twin system and tank together, including RV8 style headers is about 1200 GBP, IIRC.
