MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - U.K. Automatic Transmissions
I have searched the archives, and have not come up with an answer to this question: Did/Does Rover use a 4 speed automatic transmission behind the Rover V8? I am putting a 4.0 L into my '62 Skylark Convert. and would like to put a modern 4 speed automatic behind it. I have a BW 65 type bellhousing, and I have looked at Aisin Warner 03-71 models under Volvo Turbos. Appears that BW used the 65 as a start and added a fourth gear. Do Range Rovers use a 4spd automoatic? Can that 4X4 trans front mate with an off the shelf slush box rear casing? Questions, Questions.. Thank you in advance. Curtis. |

Follow this link: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Show/2505/autobox.html Actually, you're probably better off getting the adapter kit from D&D and hooking up a GM overdrive box. Greg |

Curtis I agree with Greg. With an adapter plate you can use a 700R4 that came behind a SB Chevy. Parts are very easy to get and inexpensive. The latter the 700R4 the better. The newest units are called 4L60Es,they are computer controlled and require a PCM to function. Bill bill_jacobson@hotmail.com |

I will contact Dan Lagrou most likely. Thanks for the input and advice. c. |

Curtis, in answer to your original question only the post 1986 Range Rover and subsequent Land Rover products have used a 4 speed auto. Much better than the three speeds before it, but not an ideal route to follow and clearly the previous suggestioins are far better options. Rog |

I have just got my Roadster conversion on the road with 3.9 Rover and BW65 auto box. I can't really see the need for more than 3 speed box. I am running 2.78 LSD diff. Ross |
