MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Under Bonnet Insulation

I am using RV8 "through the wing" type manifolds. I would like to wrap them in insulation. I will probably put some foil backed insulation on the wing where the pipe goes through and around anything I think might get too hot.
Does anyone know a cheap source for this stuff. The car goodies companies seem to charge the earth - I'm sure it is available from some industrial supplies company.
Thanks
Pete

Pete,
Use google : wrap exhaust insulation. result 35500 pages.
exemple : www.wicksaircraft.com
www.ship-technology.com www.thermotex.net ect....

Peye,

Prices of stuff varies.....I used fibreglass pipe lagging (recommended by TVR engineer) but it eventually breaks up.

I got the current tape from Frosts , at the time they were the cheapest ones, plenty for a full V8 wrap as far as the 'Y' pipe.

Pete I wouldn't recomend using that wrap. I had it on my headers for acouple years and it makes the headers rust prematurly. A better way to go is have them JET HOT coated. It is more costly but they warrenty them for life on new metal. I had it done about 10 years ago and they still look good.

.....Or you could go stainless (most of the UK manifolds are stainless rather than m.s.)

Thanks for all your input ( except maybe Mark !!)
I have a stainless system so rust isn't likely to be a problem.
Thanks Michael from Aix en Provence, I tried a Google search and there are Aircraft companies etc selling it. What gets me is that US hotrod shops I also found on the net sell 50 ft rolls of 2" wide for about $40 and in the UK the price is double!!
Mike B - I will also try to find a source of fibreglass, its worth a look!
As you can tell, I'm trying to do this as low cost as possible.
Does anyone know how much you need for 2 V8 manifolds?
Michael, I saw some of your pictures in another BBS answer. It would be nice to see some more pictures of your car, it certainly looks like a very special piece of machinery. I guess you are a racer.

At last years concourse I saw a guy who had made up a couple of flat stainless shields that sat horrizontal on top of the extractors. Some small cut outs for plug access but very simple. Looked good, is effective.
He sid that they also prevented splash coming off the road. Personally I've never found this a problem but the shiny stainless shields certainly look better than the RV8 style holes (even reinforced) so thats as good a reason as any. Obviously it's very cheap to do, just some 316 grade stainless and an angle grinder required (and some cheap insulation for underneath for course, I think he used some wall insulation)
Peter

Peter,

The fibreglass lagging tape came in a roll from the local plumbers merchants ( as supplied to TVR).
