MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - v6 tach conversion help needed
Sorry to cross post, but has anyone converted their 4 cylinder tachometer to correctly (or close)read v6 pulses? |

Haven't done it but a lot of people say the standard tach can be adjusted for a V8, so a V6 shouldn't be a problem. Something about twiddling an adjustable resistor inside the can. |

S. Walters, If it has the printed cicuit in it we can modify it for you to work on a 6 cylinder. It's a bit expensive though. Email me if you are interested. It was never confirmed from any sources that I contacted that you can calibrate the model with the two transistor circuit to work on a 6 cylinder engine. I would like to know myself if this can be done. Thanks , Dann |

Hey Walters, weren't we supposed to be going skiing today? Anyway, here's a link to a business in Burnaby, BC that will probably help you out with the tach info you need. http://canwest-tach.com/vdo.html I've been advised of them by a gent who put a 5 speed Toyota W58 box in his XJS and had a correction speedo drive built for a very modest sum and he's delighted with it. Jim Loosli is the guy to talk to at Canwest. I posted this to the BBS in case anyone else is looking for speedo and tach modifications and would like another contact to try. |

S Walters, You didn't say what year MGB you have, but http://zaks.com/mgb/ has instructions and pictures for the ’77-’80 tachometer. |

i had the stock tach for my 78 changed over by the smiths instrument dealer here in town, he changed it to mate with my 3.4 60 degree v6, cost about $175. usd but it looks a lot better as stock and cheaper than changing out all the instruments, jim the company is called APT instruments in bloomington, mn |

Thanks for all the responses to my quest. My MG is a 1976 MGB with a Camaro 2.8 liter V6 ,T5 transmission and a Chevy Monza limited slip dif.. I have located a local guy who will do the recalibration of the tach from 4 cyl to 6 cyl for a fee. Not cheap, but I had a look inside the tach and one would surely have to know what they were about before they attempted any finger polking. Thought I might save some $$ with a quick fix but looks like I'll leave it to an practised pro. Thanks again. Steve. |
