MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - V8 Conversion
Is there anyone out there that has a site or description on what is involved in a Ford small block conversion? Thanks |
Hills |
Hey Larry!!! :) |
Carl |
He's with a customer, he will be with you in a minute :] |
Stan Williams |
Apparently Larry will be tied up for some time. From my own experience I can say that I had my car running and driving in about 4 months back in '96, another year to get it sorted out enough to drive 50 miles from home, another 2 years to dare drive it anywhere. It's an ongoing transformation, always room for improvement. Very expensive swap if you can't do all the work yourself, relatively expensive even if you can. |
Dale |
re: Very expensive swap if you can't do all the work yourself, relatively expensive even if you can But, hey.....it's only money. And...you cannot buy a new sportscar (ie 350ZX, Z4, Corvette, etc) for the amount it takes for an MG V8 conversion.......and...you can't take it with you....so...spend it on something you want and like! rick 74.5 GT conversion (Rover...not Ford) |

BAH! C'mon rick!!!! Hit my website linked to the left. Any questions feel free to email or post here. I been away from the site for a little while, but have things back in motion now.. Letting a bit of the cat out of the bag, and it may be a few months before it is ready, but I am begining to work on making a mount kit for 302/5.0 installs in a MG RB. My idea is to have a kit with a template so that you drill a couple holes in the k-member(template included) and bolt them in then drop the motor in, no welding required!! Notching the K-member will be up to the customer to have done I can provide measurements on where to do it. I MAY consider doing some sort of Core system, or have people ship thier K-member's in to be notched, but that is way off in the future. The expensive part on a 302/5.0 is the headers, other than that and the engine mounts it is no different than a buick/rover. Other than having around 100 more lbs and 100 more cubic inches of drivetain shattering power!! |
Larry Embrey |
OH - You guys are just a RIOT!!!! :-) Funny thing is you all point to me for the 302/5.0 stuff, but I am the one person that does not have thiers 100% done and running!! heh I HAVE driven mine for a whole summer carbeurated then I broke a stock rear end playing and took her off the road for a little upgrade.. 2yrs later she has seen the road again for a month, but now I am working on the whole k-member mount thing so it is down again. I guess I do have it all physically in the car and under the stock hood though, I just always find something to tinker with and tear apart!! |
Larry Embrey |
Larry, I "pointed" at you because you have a website that documents several 302 conversions, including some pics of Dale's (even tho you still caption his diff as a 9"). There is not a ton of 302 conversion info on the web. I believe Hills can benefit from your site. That is if you would just take the comma out of your hyperlink. :) |
Carl |
Larry, I should have headers by the V-8 meet this summer! Hopfully will be in the ball park as rover headers as far as costs. Steve |
Steve Carrick |
heh, don't forget the cost of purchasing a trailer with that, or does it come with the headers as an option? |
james madson |
Steve, Email me I would like to talk to you about that!! Carl, I did not realise the link was bad I will fix that tonight. Last I had heard Dale had a 9", but it has been years since he and I talked directly.. James, Trailer for what, and does what include headers? |
Larry Embrey |
Steve, Rumour has it that I'm first in line for the headers - I'll be bringing my checkbook to the convention! |
Graham Creswick |
Graham...Steve only takes US$...I'll vouch for you on the Canadian check...but you're going to have to keep me supplied in ale! ;-) rick |
rick ingram |
Larry, FYI, Dale runs a MGB/8" Ford hybrid that he built. |
Carl |
James, Are you comming to the show ??? Lets see a show of hands (comments) from those that will be here. We are going to be on the Chassie dyno for Saturday morning, I want to see the numbers when you hit the button !!! Yes, Graham your first, U.S. funds only. |
Steve Carrick |
yes steve i will be in MI, i was planningon bring my v6 mga as twists party is featured for A's this time, and i was hoping to talk brian mc into driving my b, i want to see and feel it whne i hit the button also, but currently i am waiitng for some more info from haltech to reprogram the ecu to accept 150 top 200 hp shot, hsould for sure have it worked out by than, i am also intersted in seeing your headers for the 302, do you have an apporx cost? i have a check from a good friend in nigeria that i will endorse over to you so save me a couple sets and you can give me the change too. you are a ford guy, ihave been having some on going issues wiht my ford 2.8 in my A, do you know much about those old motors? maybe know any rod guys that do? just checking, jim |
james madson |
Jim....the UML featured "marque" is the overhead cam MGs...which would include the MGA Twincam...not the 1500 or 1622...your V6 MGA is, of course, welcome to be included in "prepared" class, et cetera. rick |
rick ingram |
Carl, Still not sure what you mean about a comma in my link. I see none and it works fine for me?? I also corrected Dale's page to show 8". I see I am not the only one to be tinkering with the burly blue bottle. I have not decided whether to run it or not, the 5.0 alone will be more than the chassis can put down, so why waste the $40 to fill the bottle?? I was going to go do a dyno day on the 26th, but have decided to pass on it until I can get a stronger rear end built for the car. |
Larry Embrey |
Larry.... On your post you have a website and an e-mail address, separated by a comma. Since you did not space between the addresses, this hyperlink acts as one: http://www.mgbconversions.com,larry@mgbconversions.com and is therefore invalid. Simple mistake..most would catch it unless in ahurry and just clicked on the link or was a true internet novice. see you in August.. rick |
rick ingram |
Rick are you saying Larry's a complete internet novice? Not complete I'm quite sure, but that's just my opinion. What's this about a chassis dyno? Jim |
Jim Blackwood |
I will be there, I will bring my HO twin tennis shoes for the dyno run on saturday. :-) |
Bill Guzman |
Rick, I have checked my signature here and looking at it right now don't see a problem?? The email and website url on two separate fields signature..?? Or are you talking about a post I made about my website some time ago?? |
Larry Embrey |
Larry, Here is what is in the spot for the URL: http://www.mgbconversions.com, There is a comma after the M in com. That is what is fouling things up. Justin |
Justin |
Larry, Go to your post and click on the address to your web site and you'll see what he means. There is a comma at the end that, if not removed, prevents the hot link from connecting. See below. David http://www.mgbconversions.com, |
David |
re: What's this about a chassis dyno? There will be time available for V8 registrants to have the opportunity to run their cars on a dyno. Steve will be having a lottery, as there is not enuf time for all to be able to do this. Good luck! rick |
rick ingram |
Steve Dale and I will be there with our 302s to represent the northeast--so here 2 hands to count All the best Gil |
Gil Price |
Sorry but you guys have me very confused!? :-/ I have not posted a link in this thread. The one to the left of this that is my "signature" with my home town and email address works perfectly and has no comma's in it. I will skim thru the non archived threads and see if I goofed up in one of them. Sory for the problem. http://www.mgbconversions.com |
Larry Embrey |
Larry, Click on this link and look at the screen shot that I took. It will show you the problem we're all facing. http://www.geocities.com/bmanetd/larry.html Justin |
Justin |
Larry, I was confused too, because your link worked fine for me, until I saw the picture posted by Justin. Click on the "customize" link at the top of the page, and you'll see some options on the page layout. If you choose 2 columns, as I did and apparently you did, your link comes out fine. If you chose one column, your link comes out as others have said, with a comma where there shouldn't be one. Hope this helps, Dan |
Dan Masters |
AHAA!! So it is a bug in the bbs software!! I was wondering what you guys were talking about. Only those people that use the one colum tabular format as theier preffered vewing style have a problem, the BBS software adds in a comma, not me. I am testing a few variations to see if I can get around it.. |
Larry Embrey |
OK, finally fixed!! Osrry folks I had NO idea it was an issue until it was mentioned here.. Speaking of bugs and BBS stuff, anyone know whay they have not migrated this whole forum to a modern syem?? there are a number of FREE ones that add a ton of usefull features and are very simple to set-up. They have archiving and GREAT search abilities as well that would make it easier for new people to find the info they need.. |
Larry Embrey |
I'm glad we got to the bottom of this! I pointed this out nearly a year ago. I couldn't understand why Larry didn't know what I was talking about. I don't normally log in because of the email harvesting thing. Now, back to business! |
